Do you know where to find the entries for the "Froilan Gonzalez Trophy for HGPCA Pre '61 Grand Prix Cars" Tony?

Also, while the races have more representative cut-offs of car types than they used to, odd things still appear...........a Gordini T16 and a Lotus 16 in the Pre-66 rather than the Pre-61, for instance.

That must be the biggest grid for Formula Fords ever in the UK - 49 cars started and amazingly 46 finished!
http://www.mstworld....resultfile=hsc2
Have there been larger FF1600 grids than this anywhere in the world?

By the way, do go on the big wheel if you get the chance; it is free of charge and the view is actually very impressive.

Whoops - sorry. I didn't know this - I'm surprised no-one mentioned it here at the time. It was good to see two such 'failures' as the Scarab and the Tec-Mec battling for the lead in today's race.Bronson won at Pau earlier this year. Or has he changed engines since then?
I had a bit of a problem finding it myself. If you can locate the big Art Gallery tent in the trade village, Ted's stand is immediately to the north of it.Sorry to have not seen you today; I couldn't find Ted's stand either - where is it hiding? Let me know what it's near (or inbetween-ish) and I will search again tomorrow.

I wasn't surprised to see that the Group C race was cancelled.
The preceeding GT race was a strange one: the pace car had just two cars behind it the secong time past the pits when it was deployed again.

Julian Bronson's win in the Scarab was hard-fought and enjoyable, although this is the first time I've seen him race and not crash, and smash something up.

Interestingly the fastest Group C lap was 1:46.7 , or 7 seconds quicker than the F1 time. Sadly I missed the group C race due to going Saturday ( blast and damn!) but is that quite a large gap.
Most interesting is that the best F Ford lap time of 2:20 or so virtualy equalled the pre '66 F1 fastest lap. I guess the old FF agression lives on - or maybe they aren't so conscious of the historical value of their cars. Anybody who drove one Lotus 25 into the other one would be unpopular to say the least.
BTW on a very mundane note the two paddock solution gives much more space to see the cars but, unless you are a BRDC member or have paid to be a "VIP" there is no actual
sit -down full meal cafe in the new paddock. You have to go back to the old Paddock. Eating is actually better at Sneterton - never though I would say that.

Can't be Jarier because it would have broken by now...

Nigel Williams (Lotus 24).

Fairground and traction: the Minshaw Birdcage hammers along the Wellington Straight.

Simon Hadfield leans on the DB3S, one of 214 cars he raced during the weekend.

Having heard that there was an eight-mile tailback of Cortinas on the A43, some punters sought alternative means of entrance.

Random thought... are Pirelli making air bags these days? All would have been made welcome if they had wished to shelter from the rain in the Pirelli Hospitality area

Nice to see these two Volgas all the way from Mother Russia among the more exotic machinery (my ropey Russky sadly prevented an in-depth interview with their two pilots).

I feel sure I should know what this neat little Bristol sports car is ... Someone will doubtless chime in.

The Pre-63 GT race started promisingly ...

.. but then the Cobra went sick

... and it was left to Simon Hadfield in DP212 to keep the Pearson/Oliver 250 SWB honest (despite the Aston showing signs of having exchanged contact details with another competitor)

Mr Ruston of this Parish was pedalling this nice 356B enthusiastically (at least, I assume it was him doing the first stint)

Some cars look much more at home against the Silverstone Scaffolders Convention backgrounds

Julian Bronson scored the Scarab's second win of the weekend after Tony Smith's Dino went on a little detour, leaving it to Tony Wood in the Tec-Mec to give chase.

But I can't seem to get too excited about these (my loss, I'm sure).

On the catering front, I was lucky enough to stumble across the BBQ next to the (old) Paddock Caff - much better value than any of the 'divine' offerings scattered around the infield and with good jazz and real ale hard-by.
Overall, I was (sort of) glad I chose to go on the Sunday for a change, though there was a slight feeling of 'same old, same old' - and was it my imagination or was the club participation a bit smaller this year?

Love the event but numbers of public seemed down to me. But then again £40+ to get in puts off the casual attendee. I saw £6.80 for a pork roll too! Glad I packed my own lunch.
But worth every penny just to see the BT44 alone.....drools

If you're referring to the Scarab, it's not an Indy car, but an Intercontinental Formula survivorHow does an "Indy Car" manage to win an F1 race TWICE ??????????Answers on a postcard please sent to the FIA.

I remember Scarab's Grand Prix car had a Scarab engine and since the timekeepers' results have it as a "Scarab Offenhauser", it made it seem as if it were an Indanapolis job . . .If you're referring to the Scarab, it's not an Indy car, but an Intercontinental Formula survivor

The only F1 race on the programme with which the FIA seemed to be involved appears to be the Historic EffWun - Surely the RAM Williams FW07 wasn't an Indycar? No NOT the Scarab Try again.

A rather picky chum did grumble to me that the first three places in Sunday's race were filled by Grand Prix no-hopers or ineligibles - Scarab (now with Offenhauser engine), TecMec and Monzanapolis Lister). Perhaps the race wasn't for Pre-61 GP Cars, despite the title?
