As a spin-off from Mark Webbers comments about the F1 grid being less about ability and more about sponsors, what would be the most "competitive" grid for 2013 ?
Vettel,
Alonso,
Raikkonen,
Hamilton,
Rosberg,
Webber,
Button,
Massa,
Hulkenberg,
di resta,
Sutil,
Ricciardo,
Vergne,
Kobayashi,
Maldonado,
Heidfeld,
Glock,
Kovalainen,
Perez,
Senna,
Buemi,
Grosjean

in no particular order with Alguersuari, Bianchi, da Costa knocking on the door and a few centimetres width-wise in the tub to ensure Kubica is included.

Something to discuss over the summer break ?

Trim my dead-wood and add your new growth :smoking:

You'd lose Guitierezz, Pic, Van de Garde and Chilton, and replace them with Frijns, Da Costa, Buemi and Kobayashi. I think.

I don't think Heidfeld (not been in F1 for four seasons), Montoya (not been in F1 since SEVEN seasons) or Alquesauri (who has been completely inactive since 2011) will do a better job than others. Neither will Schumacher.

Frijns all the way. This kid is electric. If he was coming of age at the same time Schumacher did, there would have been problems choosing between the two for that spare Jordan seat!

+1 Agree on Frijns, DaCosta and Koba, not sure about Buemi though. Maybe Kova.

I'd like to see Robert Wickens get a shot.

If we talk about 2014, the only drivers from feeder series who impressed me enough that I want to see them in F1 now are Frijns, Vandoorne and Magnussen.

There were some decent drivers who left F1 recently, but if we drop 3 the worst drivers from current grid (Chilton for sure and then I don't know. VdG? Gutierrez? Pic?) at the cost of these who I mentioned earlier, I don't think it would make big difference to bring back anybody. It's all quite comparable level IMO.
