Apparently Valencia wants to resign from the contract which would have Valencia and Barcelona alternate till 2019. "El Mundo" and "Sport.es" report that budget problems are the root of that decision

No surprise really. When the news hit earlier this year that the circuit was victim of vandalism and looting, I knew the end had come.

i think the Title is misleading, it's not

'Valencia gp is out of Formula 1' but

'Valencia wants out of Formula 1'

http://grandprix247....ula-1-contract/

Now, Diario Sport newspaper reports that the only negotiations between Bernie Ecclestone and Valencia president Alberto Fabra are about how much Valencia should pay for breaking its existing race contract.

Reportedly, F1′s chief executive wants Valencia to pay the full € 33 million termination penalty, but Fabra “is in talks to soften” that maximum hit.

gotta love bernie, if u wanna live, you gotta pay, if u wanna die, you'll also need to pay :smoking:

Wouldn't care if the race that replaced if wasn't Catalunya, however as it is I would much prefer Valencia to stay.

They do. They are struggling to find aspects of the circuit to bling out even more.

I think the Valencia saga epitomises the high end corruption pervading Spain at present. When the race contract was signed it was meant to be paid from private funding withe the Valencia municipality only acting as a guarantor. When the the private funding failed to appear the public purse had to fund the race.
It's no surprise Valencia want out of the contract since they are technically insolvent. But surely questions should be asked as to who received back handers when the contact was signed in the first place?

Interesting . . . didn't know that.

Certainly, in these austere times, Bernie type numbers are an obscenity - regardless of backhanders. Spain's 50% youth unemployed won't be going to watch.

So did I. Even if it still had a contract I was never expecting to see it again.

If Madrid gets the 2020 Olympics, Valencia would host sailing. Maybe they could use the press centres.

Get rid of both! Two of the worst circuits on the calender, do not enjoy either of those races...

Heartbroken.

Not.

At least they signed off with a moderately exciting (exciting for that track, anyway) in 2012.

it's sad.

huge investment to make a fab looking but substandard track, just to be gone only after several years.

the track was rubbish but with their cheap ticket prices and location on the beach I was planning to make a trip there at some point for the race

Interesting that no one has piped up to say they liked it!! I wont be that first person, it was a horrible and dull track that brought little to the calendar. I wont be sad to see it go.

I actually liked the city and attending a race there, much preferred it to spa for example. But again I am talking about the location, not the track itself

It's such a shame they choose such an unattractive part of town to host the race in. Why run it around the docks when you have such a nice city (potentially) available?

I'm talking about people's impressions of the race, not the reasons the race is being scrapped.

Peoples impression of the race come from the actual race, not the scenery.

Well, at least Madrid didn't withdraw their bid like Rome. But they're obviously the least likely bidders to get the games.

And because the Olympics would be a heavy financial burden for Spain, I'd like them to use the media centre of Valencia F1 circuit.

Spain has 2 GP's on 2 poor racing circuits and France has none. Why?

Angling to bring back Rouen, are they? France hasn't had a decent Grand Prix circuit in decades.

They could have if they paid the fee.
