Is that John Newbolds old 250 ? very similar colour scheme. My 350 had one of those "Daytona" seats, they were bloody awkward, I gave mine to a kid who put it on his Fizzy.

Why do all the Snetterton shots look cold and wet - not the hot and sunny Snetterton I remember (or even remembrer)?
I would wear a gum shield in the paddock to prevent tooth damage due to the chattering teeth.
Perhaps as the shot of Ron being pushed off by Leon shows leons 250 (number 99) in the background they were all taken on that one wet and cold day Snetterton suffered in all my years racing there.

I don't think its the same bike Greg, though I remember John Newbold on one in similar colours.

I was at Snetterton that day in March 1975, it was the first time I raced. It was a pretty grim day weather wise, although I think it did dry up a bit as the day went on. I don't remember the cold too much, probably the excitement of the day prevented that. I spent plenty of colder days there in later years but like every circuit there were times when it was hot and dry and times when it wasn't, except for Cadwell, it always seemed to rain there

Any of Frank Ball on his 350 Greeves? Frank used to make lots of parts for his Greeves special. He unfortunately was killed a few years back in an accident involving a home made light aircraft.

Thanks Graham, these pictures are really superb.
The seventies were a great time to be involved in racing; very competitive but also I think about as affordable as it could be with everyone in work and plenty of genuine racing machinery and all the spares available.
Just as an aside; entry fees for two Bemsee races in 1970 were £5, with a skilled working man taking home £24 19s 6p.
What does it cost today?
Best wishes, Peter.

I remember this TZ from Croft, first one I'd ever seen. We were at a Friday morning practise session and a GT Motorcycles van turned up with the TZ in the back, we noticed very few gear changes up the old start / finish, apparently it was on "Daytona" gearing and if I remember correctly it only managed to reach third around Croft.

Yep, almost lived there, it was only 30mins from my home in Durham, I much prefer the old layout to the new.

Strangely my quote function doesn't work anymore??
Anyway Charlie Fry's TZ will be an A or B, It wasn't a standard feature but Spondon did a kit to convert the twin shock frame to laid down shocks although this one appears to be a home made job using the standard Yamaha swingarm

Revetts were, and still are I believe, a motorcycle dealership in Ipswich. The TV rental company that used to sponsor Snetterton meetings was Hubbards.

Photos of Barry Woodland and Leon Lerego in 1975. I started using Michelin S32 PZ2 tyres that year, I can see that Leons' 350 is on them and I believe Barrys' bike is also running them. They caught on quick.
The 70s were truly the golden age of Clubbies. Plenty of good clubs running meetings every weekend, you could usually do a 'double' often at the same circuit. Great machines most could afford in the TZ Yamaha, great music, fantastic beer, the sun never stopped shining (except one day at Snetterton, as seen).
Reading 'Rocker to Racer' the Reg Everett book he documents how difficult it was in the late 50s early 60s to get starts but the 70s even with very full grids and loads of reserves I cannot remember being turned down for a start.
Great days, I don't think we'll see the likes of again.
PS: Using my wifes' PC here and emotions are back, but there again hers is a nearly new Dell, mine came second hand from Del (Boy). LOVELY JUBBLY
