I am looking at a picture taken I believe at Snetterton in the pits in the early 60's.  Say between 1960 and 1963. The car is a light coloured Lotus 12 carrying race number 4 . Is there anyone on TNF who may be able to tell me who the entrant/driver of this Lotus car is? Old programmes etc?

      Thanks in anticipation

I have been able to answer my own question.  The car was the ex Ivor Bueb chassis #359 when owned by the American Steve Wilder of Fifth Avenue Racing Team (Don't use the acronym) It was at Snetterton in 1959 in a Formula Libre race. I can identify it by the stand off brackets for the mirrors, the instrument array and a gear indicator rigged up on the dash. The high tail rear tank cover used by Ivor is lying on the ground as they work on the car.

The gear indicator was still in use by Gary Ford many years later in the USA.

I would still like to receive any Lotus 12 pictures out there to add to my now quite extensive files on each car.

Mike, have you tried the Maurice Louche collection in France?. AFAIK he centres mainly on sports racers but I believe there are other archives which he has which may include your period F2 and F1.

Well of course the racing team could be described as 5th Avenue Racing Team, rather than Fifth Avenue Racing Team

It appears that Mike Wilder entered the Lotus 12, chassis 359 at another circuit in 1959 as well as Snetterton.

Vanwall Trophy - Snetterton, 2 races 10 laps and 20 laps (54.20ml: 27.10ml) 26-07-1959

Race 1: Vanwall Trophy (Single seat Racing Cars) 20 laps

No  4  Steve Wilder:  5th Avenue Racing Team  Lotus 12-359

SG:  n/a     Result:  6th, 20 laps

Race 2: (Formula Libre)

SG:  n/a     Result:  3rd, 10 laps

Raleigh Trophy (Formula Libre) - Mallory Park  heats 7 laps: final 20 laps  (9.45ml: 27.00ml)

No 90  Steve Wilder:  5th Avenue Racing Team  Lotus 12-359

Heat 1:

SG  n/a    Result:  3rd, 7 laps, 6'57.0"

Final:

SG:  (7th) Result:  5th, 20 laps, 19'21.4"

Interestingly in 4th place was Jim Clark in the Border Reivers Lister BHL-5 (Jaguar 3.4 litre)
