It's still conjecture and speculation that Boullier is headed to McLaren. It's certainly plausible particularly given the timing but at this point we just don't know. I would think that Dennis would relish that role considering how he was basically forced out.

With nothing confirmed at this point in time, it is slightly perplexing.
Gerard Lopez has said on record that discussions were already in place for Eric to leave, and for himself to take over as TP, prior to Eric's departure.

Joe Saward asks today why Lopez would want to be TP, a role for which he has precious few qualifications.

However, it could be that Lopez wants to hang in there somehow. According to what I read, Lopez lost out to Ruhan when he could not repay the loan and Ruhan assumed a controlling interest.
Did Lopez elbow Eric in favour of himself, to make himself less disposable in a team where he was losing control?

Dennis is business tycoon these days and is past the days of sitting on the pit wall clocking pit stop times.

It's not uncommon for a non-racing person to take the team principal role nowadays. Both Force India and Caterham have seen their owners as team principal, so it's not out of the ordinary for Lopez to take control at Lotus. Presumably, he will be following in the lead of Mallya and Fernandes by running the business side of things, while delegating the actual racing and technical operations to another senior team figure.

eh ? That article adds nothing - its just a cut & paste from various others, "credible" or not.

Think it's safe to say EB will NOT be at Jerez with McLaren!
Why?

Flavio wasn't exactly qualified for the role either, but was rather successful.

Briatore is an unscrupulous, lying, cheating fraudster, how is that not highly qualified for a role in what was the Max and Bernie show?
(Granted, he knew **** all about engineering, although he did seem to know the right person to speak to when he wanted sparks to come out of the back of his cars)

At least not with McLaren. I mean, not with with. He might be in the garage, but they're just good friends, really.

I really doubt he doesnt go to McLaren. However it wouldnt be a complete shock him going to Force India
Funny how Perez was his Plan B for Hulkenberg if they got the Quantum money. He could get to work with both of them

Have Lotus still not paid this years entry fee?
....I still think they are Foooked and won't compete this year...
How will Boullier wangle Grosjen into the Mclaren this year is the next good question......perhaps after the first test Magnussen will be found to need a little longer in say GP2 due to the complications of driving the new cars........or perhaps they will bin Button....
Grosjean ain't going anywhere near that team. He doesn't fIt the bill.

With Grosjean replacing a rookie who has more potential than him and is younger or a WDC with the most experience on the grid. RD wouldn't give EB free reighn like that straight away.

According to the Daily Mail (yeah I know...) there are 3 candidates to replace Bouliier, one of them being Whitmarsh.

another could be craig pollock, who also could buy 25% shares...

A definitive answer from a Formula One team.....thats unusual to say the least...(maybe they asked Martin Whitmarsh.....)
Posted 27 January 2014 - 10:39
Nothing definitive in this answer at all. Boullier may be at the Jerez test in the McLaren garage, but not be "with" the team. Could be there as really good friends and a guest.
Posted 27 January 2014 - 11:18
This seems fairly credible though

I think not:
"It is understood, though, that the choice of Boullier would principally have been made by the Bahrain royal family's Mumtalakat investment company".

this is sounding like "our biggest OPERATIONAL budget ever..." from Mclaren
....so dosh for day to day running is ok but with no major sponsor their development budget could be limited
..... which is where Boullier comes in ....
