I want to find reliable information about Jacques Ledure and Jérôme Ledure. What is available in books, websites etc. is very controversial.

Both of them were active race car drivers in the 1920s and 30s. According to André Biaumet's Chimay book, they were brothers. But this is not confirmed.

Jacques Ledure was a Belgian aviator who sometimes raced under pseudonym "Elgy". In 1922 he took part in the Belgian Grand Prix in a Auto Métallurgique

and in 1927 he won the cyclecar class in the Grand Prix des Frontières, at Chimay, in a Sénéchal

http://forums.autosp...52-1927-chimay/

He also raced in the 24 Heures de Spa-Francorchamps, finishing 2nd in 1927 with André Dills of Belgium in an Excelsior, and 3rd in 1928, with the Italian Goffredo Zehender in a Chrysler.

He died at Chimay in 1948, while acting as a race marshal.

Jérôme Ledure is reported to be French by several sources. He finished 7th in the Belgian Grand Prix in 1930 in a works Imperia. He also raced several times in the Spa-Francorchamps 24-hour race in the early 1930s.

A driver named Ledure made three starts in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, but it is not clear who of them he was: if Jacques or, according to many other sources, Jérôme. :|

In 1924 "Ledure" shared a Bignan with Henri Matthys; in 1925 a Chenard&Walcker with André Pisart; and in 1928 a Chrysler with Goffredo Zehender (this could be the final prouve he was Jacques).

Please... HELP!!!

As is well documented, Jacques Ledure won the 1924 Monte Carlo Rally driving a Bignan.

Several references in Flight refer to the full name of the (definitely) Belgian Monsieur Ledure as being Jacques Edouard Ledure.

As far as I'm aware Jérôme Ledure is an invention ...

Thanks to our friend "Marcor" (who did not post messages in TNF since several months, because he... lost his password  :D ), we have solved the mystery.

Here is the Motorsport-Memorial page on Jacques Ledure:

http://motorsportmem...php?db=ct&n=437

Jacques Ledure is not to be confused and was not related with the other driver named Jérôme Ledur (without a "E"), reportedly French, who competed with little success in French hillclimbs and in the Paris - Nice (“Critérium International de Tourisme”) from 1929 to 1934. Different accounts indicated that Jacques Ledure and Jérôme Ledure were brothers; this was not true.

Here is Ledur's palmarès (by "Marcor":

Paris - Nice (Critérium International de Tourisme)
1929, 4rd Cat G, 750 - 1100 cc, Salmson n°10
1930, 21th overall, Salmson Conduite Intérieure n°9
1931, 21th overall, Salmson
1932, 28th overall, Rally 1301 cc n°15
1933, 39th overall, Salmson n°17
1934, 28th overall, 7th Classe 1500 cc, Salmson n°29

Hillclimb events (not included in Paris-Nice)
1930, 17 Feb, Morlaas, Salmson, 3rd Sport 1100 cc
1930, 13 Apr, Chanteloup, Salmson, 2nd Touring 1500 cc and 1st Touring 1100 cc

1931, 25 Oct, Gometz-Le-Chatel, Rally n°104, entered in Sport 1100 cc
1931, 11 Nov, Coupe de L'Armistice, ?, entered in Sport 1500 cc

1932, 5 May, Quinssaines, Rally, 2nd Sport 1500 cc
1932, 22 May, La Béhourdière, Rally n°84, 2nd Sport 1500 cc
1932, 5 June, Sézanne, Rally, 2nd Sport 1500 cc

So two different people, a Belgian an a French. I don't know why they were mistaken and who was the first to confuse.

It appears that at Le Mans in 1925 Pisart shared the Chenard & Walcker with Jacques Elgy.  But Martin Krejki has André Pisart and Jacques Ledure finishing 16th in the 1925 Spa 24 hours in a Chenard & Walcker

"Elgy" was the nom-de-course of Jacques Ledure, a phonetic forms of his initials.
