Could any of the old timers on here please think back and remember why these sponsorship deals came to an end?

 

In modern F1 deals seem to end either when teams stop achieving (Vodafone McLaren for example) or the firm has problems (like RBS and Williams).  In these two cases though neither firm seemed to be in trouble and Williams was doing really well.  Did the team simply get better offers?

Canon ended in 1993, along with Camel. The team was Rothmans(or Winfield) for the next 6 seasons. Camel stopped sponsoring two teams(Williams, Benetton) and consolidated their money at Benetton as Mild Seven.

Old timers? The sponsorship deals to which you refer are recent history, surely?   ;-)

I think you could say that RBS has had the odd spot of bother over the last few years, including the biggest corporate loss in British history.
Unfortunately the Government didn't have the balls to let the banks go bust and the taxpayer is still sitting on a paper loss of £16 billion. JohnP

If you read JYS  autobiography he is quite cringeingly fulsome in his paeans of praise to the noisome Fred Goodwin  . If not quite as obsequious as he is about anybody with a title. Great driver, great man but dear oh God his book was an utterly dire read. ..

To think Goodwin was mooted as a successor to Max Mosley at the FIA, JYS's nemesis if ever there was one. Fred would have fitted right well with the version of corporate governance employed in F1. JohnP
