I just wanted to have dibs on a team-mate thread. Any predictions, it's a tough call eh?

Just like he did with that trolley this morning...

So far it's looking questionable whether they've actually made enough of a step forward to get anything but 'reliability points'. So even though Max is unlikely to worry Jules outright over the season, he could end up ahead in the points.

Bianchi will relatively 'destroy' Chilton, win massively in qualifying possibly running the board, Chilton will not 'win' a race they both complete on merit.

Well, if not for anything else, Max has the merit of staying out of trouble. In these times, when a team like Marussia should just make it to the end of the race and get a good result, it's nice to know you can rely on your driver about this - even if he is dead slow.
(and of course, the wallet money is good too).

Max Chilton so shouldn't have been on the grid. Enough proof is enough.

I think Max will beat Jules on merit on occasion, as he did a couple of times in the second half of last year. But yeah, over a season Bianchi should be well in front.

This one I don't expect to be competitive. I'll be very surprised if Chilton doesn't get soundly beaten.

Well there goes my Bianchi will win qualifying 19 - 0.... Good on you Chilton.

Driving god Chilton: 1
Slowes Bianchi: 0
So will Max change to Mercedes mid-season or will they wait for 2015?

After successfully taking candy from a baby, I'll take a punt; 19/0 in Bianchi's favour.
You lost...

Stunning drive from Max today.
#22
Posted 16 March 2014 - 14:08
Max got the best result of his carrier and now has a well earned lead over Hamilton and Vettel in WDC!!!
#23
Posted 16 March 2014 - 14:11
quite tricky to be beaten by a teammate who spends 7 laps in pits restarting the car. stunning driving by max and how geneours of him to let Bianchi unlap him
#24
Posted 16 March 2014 - 14:12
Wasn't quite fair in this little battle - the extra formation lap gave the team enough time to restart Chilton's car, whereas Bianchi fell backwards in the race as the rest of the field was racing whilst the team restarted his. Still, despite the torrid start, it was encouraging for the team to get both cars to the end - and that 13th place may come in pretty handy come the end of the season!

Does anyone have the lap times of the two, to see who had the best race pace ?
#26

The info would be irrelevant as Bianchi would have had a 7 laps shorter race so over 10 % more fuel to use/lap

Well it's as I said when Chilton was retained by Marussia last year. He has the ability to stay out of trouble and reliably finish every race, and for a team at the back that is beat your rivals in the championship.

This fact alone makes him a serious WDC contender.

20 consecutive races without retiring.

Two races in and Max has had an edge over Jules; will Bianchi be able to overhaul a 13th and 15th now?
#32
Posted 30 March 2014 - 15:38
Bianchi will have to overhaul Chilton's 13th spot if they want to retain tenth spot in the standings. Today's result shows that just pootling about and staying out of trouble won't cut it if your immediate competition is faster.

21 races now!
Clearly Ferrari have the wrong Marussia driver in their academy.
Chilton for Ferrari 2015!

This is the same Bianchi who some folk reckoned was a stone cold certainty for a Ferrari seat?

Max appears to have the upper hand so far this year. I think Bianchi may struggle to get the 12th he needs to overhaul him as reliability starts to increase.
#37
Posted 31 March 2014 - 16:32
Who'd want the Ferrari seat anyway?
Daniel Ricciardo for one, I reckon. Plus more than half of the F1 grid, all of the GP2, GP3 and WSR grids. And Susie Woolf. And Danica of course. In fact, pretty well every single seater racing driver going, except Lewis, Nico and Seb.

Nice work from Max. Thought Bianchi was unlucky but I've only seen the incident once.

I would not discount Lewis, Nico and Sebastian. In the past when Schumacher was there, Alonso publicly stated he would never go there and see where he is now.
I am a Ferrari fan, so naturally what I say can be tempered against that, every single race driver in the world at one time of their adolescence see themselves as a Ferrari driver winning races and championships. Irksome as it may be to some (many?), Ferrari is THE iconic F1 team and at least half the spectators showing up are there clad in red, again yesterday when Alonso overtook Hulkenberg you heard the roar from the spectators.
And yes Chilton is doing much better than I expected him to, so good on you Max.

Chilton's streak continues! 22-0! Just like the Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX tonight ! What a coincidence!

I think the nature of the crash was most worrying, it looked like a case of red mist.

#44

Chilton was really the better driver out of these two in first 3 races, who would expect that.
#45
Posted 06 April 2014 - 20:47
Already back in GP2 Bianchi showed signs of inconsistency and potential recklessness. He didn't have many issues last year, maybe because he didn't have many cars to fight against. Chilton is beating Bianchi by the virtue of consistency atm, certainly not speed. But Bianchi will come back.
#46
Posted 07 April 2014 - 05:37
Bianchi's stock is dropping faster than Enron. The first lap incident is reminiscent of the numerous collisions in WSR and GP2. Can't he race wheel to wheel at close quarters?
On a positive note Chilton's second thirteenth place has propelled Marussia above Caterham again.

To me it looked like it was a case of overexcitement when he realised he was actually racing a Sauber on merit. Still, a rookie mistake. Sutil could use his mirrors a bit though.
#48
Posted 07 April 2014 - 10:53
I think there was a bit of blame attached to both Bianchi and Sutil yesterday.
The penalty that Bianchi got in Malaysia was a terrible decision IMO.
Chilton bringing the car home without incident is what could gain Marussia their first point. For me there is no doubt whatsoever that Bianchi is a lot quicker but that won't do him much good if he is getting into trouble during the races.
#49
Posted 07 April 2014 - 11:12
I thought Bianchi was blameless for the collision. He made a decent move and was pretty much alongside when the Sauber moved on him.

Before the season a 19-0 to Bianchi was probable, bar retirements and now it's 3-0 to Max
Not a single retirement in his whole career, 22 races, that's impressive with any pace and just what a team like Marussia needs as they can't afford broken cars and amazingly he is singlehandedly keeping Marussia in 10th AND brings a huge pile of cash. What more could a team like Marussia ask for?
Kobayashi wash brought to beat Bianchi and Bianchi is there to beat Kobayashi. Who would have ever guessed Max is the one DOMINATING
