Since you asked "sim" as opposed to "game" the answer is Grand Prix Legends. Tricky to get the hang of yet rewarding in the end. It represents the 1967 season when cars were cars, drivers were drivers, and circuits were circuits. If you can wait ahwile longer, GP3 will be out (first quarter 2000) which will portray the 1998 season. Older but still a decent game is GP2 which while outdated graphically still is enjoyable to play.

Yes Grand Prix Legends is amazing but you must have a wheel and lots of time but it is simply amazing, the best.

A wheel is a requirement for GPL but it's probably the best way to go. You _can_ drive with the keyboard but I've tried and can't imagine being competitive. You can also use a joystick and some of the best times posted at the hot-laps sites are by people using a stick. Using a wheel & pedals seems to add so much to the realism that I can't see using any other input device for a driving simulator. You can still get a Thrustmaster T2 wheel & pedals for $70. It's very good and great for the money.

I meant to start by saying a wheel is _not_ a requirement for GPL. Sorry.

I bought a Mouse System's "Bogeyman" wheel for $20 at CompUSA so some deals are out there if you look around. Though Western Europe is more expensive than the US of A so it would virtually impossible to find a duplicate of the price there.

If you would like to race in a modern F1 car, you should go for the Monaco Grand Prix Racing Simulation 2 (MGPRS2) by Ubi Soft.
I have both GP2 and MGPRS2 but never play GP2 any more. MGPRS2 is far more challenging.

As for GPL I've tried the demo, but my PC (K6-200 voodoo2 8MB) is too small for this HW-demanding game. :(

Check out the unofficial site: http://www.mgprs2.com

But I must add, that I'm longing for GP3 to come!

Happy racing! :)

Grand Prix 3 looks absolutely amazing... I wonder what sort of machine you will need to run it at the best frame/detail rate/resolution though..?

Buzz,

They'll probably set minimum requirements at Pentium 166 MHz with 32 MB Ram.............

And recommend P2-300 MHz 64 MB Ram with 3D acceleration.......

But to run it perfectly, you'll require P3-600 MHz 256 MB Ram with a TNT2 Ultra 32MB card!!!

............ But it just might make me buy a new computer .......... I won't be able to resist :)
