I couldn't find an existing thread related to the 1965 Indy 500, so I am starting a new thread.

Here is a video showing at the 5:00 mark a white #86 roadster going out to practice for the race. The race results I have seen have no #86 in the field, so the car must not have qualified. Can anyone ID the driver? What struck my eye was the unusual air intake on the right hand side. Was this feature only on the #86 car?

That car looks a lot like the one driven a year before by Johnny Rutherford. It also had such a trunk inlet in 1964

In which case it would be the Racing Associates Spcl, maintained by, among others Herb Porter.

That car did qualify in 64 Rrutherford) and 1966 (Bobby Grim),in which year it had a turbocharged Offy under the hood.

I don't have the literature available here but if no-one answers the question before, I'll be back on this matter after I've consulted my tomes.

According to Champ Car Stats the car was driven by Bobby Grim:

Thanks Tim, that means my identification is indeed correct, it was the Racing Associates Special .
