I've been given the sad news that Barrie Maskell died last weekend. Barrie was a stalwart of F3 from the mid-sixties to mid-seventies but never had the budget to do his talent justice. A domestic accident some years ago left him in a wheelchair but he continued to race Porsches fitted with hand controls.

 

His hilarious and non-pc website tells his story far better than I could.

Sad news. I recall him in his F3 days and enjoyed his blog. It brought back many memories. Condolences to his family and friends.

As Sterling says, extremely sad news. I first remember seeing him in his F3 days and later racing the Dastle. I also saw him race his adapted Porsche a few times. Irrepressible, in spite of his disability.

Very sad news, Bev Bond gone and now Barrie. A great racing Yorkshireman who ran at the pinnacle of F3. RIP.

Sad news. Baz and many others running around in the early 70s made my time in racing so much fun that I stuck with it!

 

A funny guy, raw talent, another good one gone. RIP Baz.

That's sad news. I saw him race quite a lot in the early 70's with that distinctive helmet and do well in cars that perhaps weren't the best. His website/blog is an excellent read.

I knew his website from an earlier post, probably here at TNF, but couldn't help spending another joyful hour or so reading through some of the stuff - brilliant! A good life he had, and gave us many memories.

Sad news once more - a stalwart of F3 Barry was always a hard charger and deserved better cars than he ended up in.

Really sorry to find out Barrie Maskell is no longer with us.  I have been racing his old 911 at Knockhill for some years now.  I invited him up to have a shot in it anytime he wanted, but sadly it was not to be.

I have seen some of the picture of him racing, looks like he was going a lot faster than me.
