At Le Mans in 1977 and 1978, the Kremer Team had a driver racing under the pseudonym of "Steve" :

- 1977 #58 Porsche 934 with Bob Wollek and Philippe Gurdjian.

- 1978 #46 Porsche 935 with Martin Raymond and Mike Franey.

Racingsporstscar indicates these were the only two races where "Steve' participated, and that he was from Belgium :

Do we know who 'Steve" was ?

According to this website, he was a Belgian called Jean-Pierre Wielemans.  Googling him suggests that he may no longer be with us but little else, except that he perhaps was involved in rallying?

At the bottom of that same page on Stefan's site, in the class winners list, he has become Andre Gahinet.

...who seems to have used the pseudonym 'Segolen' and raced Porsches but drove in apparently two other cars at Le Mans in 1977! (?)

Arjan appears to be correct, according to this post at Autodiva:

Steve, c'est Didier Jaumont. Il a couru avec "James" aux 24 heures de Francorchamps et au Tour de France. James est le frère de Christine Beckers, autrement dit mon petit frère !

Why can't they just use their real names?

He said, posting under the name BRG.....

If we accept "Steve" was Didier Jaumont, then who was he and how did he a end up getting two Le Mans drives with the Kremer Bros ?

I've tried googling his name and get nothing. Googling "Jaumont + Kremer" also gave nothing etc. I then thought that if he was Belgian, he might have some history at Spa, but a search of 1970's results there in touring and sportscars gave nothing.

Presumably you couldn't just show up to Le Mans to drive for the Kremers without having a solid racing resume no matter how deep your pockets were ? So how did he get the drive and where did he race previously ?

Perhaps he had a previous nom de course which had been compromised? It appears that - as indicated on Le Mans History, which doesn't suggest a real name - he was actually French rather than Belgian. This would seem to be confirmed by a Brazilian blog, which claims he ran in a stock car race there in 1995:

Em 1995, os francês Didier Jaumont e o inglês George Wadell estavam inscritos para a corrida de Goiânia, numa época em que a Stock corria com o Chevrolet Omega.

There are indications that he ran a company in Brazil called Barmont Imp. Exp. Ltda, but I get the impression it's no longer trading. His full name appears to be Didier Louis Jaumont and there's a SalesSpider record that he lives (lived?) in Monte Alto. I've also found a 2004 Brazilian press reference to him, connecting him to the Club Athletico Paulistano.

I did see the Brazilian reference, but given the geographic distnce and the fact it was almost 20 years after the Le Mans appearances, I wasn't convinced it was the same person.

Here's a pictue of the team at Le Mans in 1978. I wonder if "Steve" is one of those pictured.

Well, his associate Mr Waddell (two Ds, not one) in Sao Paulo appears to be on LinkedIn. Search for "George Andrew Waddell - Brasil". He's on ZoomInfo too and appears to work for a company called Emailvision.

He may even had a mention right here on Autosport: see the 13th place team on this karting marathon from 2002: http://forums.autosp...r/#entry1070640
