This was posted on another thread. I think the topic deserves its own thread.

 

I am a (forgotten/unknown) Grand Daughter of Chris Meek, looking to find out more about his racing life and life in general...I can not seem to get much information from his family/friends and so have decided that asking motorsport fenatics (such as himself) is the best way to start as it seems that lots of people know him well or certainly did at the 'pinacle' of his career in racing...I hope! Can anybody offer me pictures, info...anything that may help me try and piece together some form of story....Please and Thank You x

Before posting I did a search for "Chris Meek" but felt that the threads that came up don't really cover the type of 'personal' information that his grand daughter is looking for.

Here are all the results that I have for Chris Meek in the ex-Cosworth Brabham BT 10 for the 1968 season.

 

According to Bill Jones advert in Autocar, dated 10 January 1969, the Brabham BT10 lapped Rufforth in 1m 14s. It seems highly likely that this was a shake-down run prior to the start of the International F2 season which Chris Meek contested in 1968.

Bill Jones said that the car lapped the Silverstone short circuit in 59s. (Unsubstantiated record).

Can't give you any results as such but as a regular at Croft and Rufforth and from West Yorkshire CM was a frequent sight at race meetings - I especially remember him in the Princess Ita Escort ,a De Tomaso Pantera and  a Lotus Europa. He was the epitome of a wide boy 60's  racer and no stranger to self publicity - but very quick with it and always put on a bloody good show.  I saw him at Croft last year(maybe year before?)  and apart from the unfeasibly black hair he looked very much the same as ever- he must be in his mid 70s ? I was in the 6th form when I first saw him and am retired now.

3 years ago Bob! More like 6, it was before I retired in 2009 - How's the Mallock going? IIRC I raced against Chris at Silverstone in April 1971, he was driving a Titan FF.

I remember the name from early 70s meetings at Croft but don't know anything about him, other than he is the boss of Titan Properties [the owners of Mallory Park]....Escort(s) sponsored by Tates of Leeds and Princess ??. I think there was a single-seater, maybe Formula Atlantic but could well be wrong.
