Does anyone on TNF have, or have access to, programmes with entry lists for the Monterey historics meetings prior to 1984.

I am looking at the ownership histories of Lotus 23s at the moment (well, actually have been doing so for about the past seven years!!!) and have been able to trace a number of cars back to 1984, thanks to the generosity of Vince Howlett, who looked up the owners for me.

However, Vince's collection starts at 1984 and I am interested to see which 23s were being campaigned at Monterey prior to 1984.

Any help gratefully received!

I may have 1982. I'll check when I get home.

Michael,
Based on the 1983 program seven Lotus 23s took the start in Sunday's Group 4B race. For three of them no chassis number was listed:

#  44 1960 Lotus 23, 1600 cc, Don Davidson [23-8-27]
#128 1964 Lotus 23B, 1600 cc, Ed Brannon [23S64-US23]
#142 1962 Lotus 23B, 1599 cc, Skip Quain [no number]
#161 1961 Lotus 23B, 2000 CC, Bob Sutherland [78B]
#191 1962 Lotus 23B, 1596 cc, Skip Duzik [no number]
#223 1962 Lotus 23B, 1600 cc, Phil Conti [no number]
#232 1961 Lotus 23, 1600 cc, Warren Snodgrass [AM104]

The 1983 program also lists the finish of the 1982 Race 7B, in which only one Lotus 23 participated:

18th oa  #233  1962 Lotus 23B   Phil Conte.

Michael,

I have 1979, 1980, 1981 1nd 1982. In 1979 and 1980 there were no 23s entered, 1981 shows Skip Quain in a 23B 1500, and Phil Conte is also shown in the 1981 program. Interesting that were seven 23s entered in 1983 and only the odd one in other years.

Jeff.

Michael,  I also should have the programs for 1978-84 if needed.  As I recall there were no Lotus 23s until Bob Sutherland appeared with one in about 1981-82.  I have been known to be wrong however...

Firstly, many many thanks for everyone's prompt responses!

So it looks as if we have the following:

1979: no 23s

1980: no 23s

1981: Skip Quain [no chassis number] and Phil Conte [no chassis number]

1982: Phil Conte [no chassis number]

1983: #44 Don Davidson [23-8-27], #128 Ed Brannon [23S64-US23], #142 Skip Quain [no chassis number], #161 Bob Sutherland [78B], #191 Skip Duzik [no number], #223 Phil Conte [no number], #232 Warren Snodgrass [AM104]

All corrections welcome! Not too many chassis numbers to be going on but something to work with at least.

Hi Jeff

Thanks for this! I know I'm being cheeky but would you have race numbers as well, as it helps with photo identification?

Cheers

Michael

Car No. 231 1962 Lotus 23b Dick Daniel Rioverside, CA

He was very helpful, was pitted next to us. We were running Rick Cole's Siata 208CS.

Michael,

No problem, in 1981 Skip Quain's 23B was # 140 and Phil Conte's 23 was #223.

Cheers,

Jeff.
