IMVHO the race last year was out and out the best motor race i have ever seen. 100+ laps of safety car free racing, genuine racing, it was phenomenal. There's no hope of repeating that but here's hoping we get another goody.
Not been following the series closely so has merc improved their engine and what's Erikkson up to? last year he was scary good.
Another legendary track, especially the top of the mountain through to forest elbow. They don't make tracks like this anymore. Natural and flowing following the natural curves and elevations of the location is always the best way. As opposed to the car parks that most tracks seem to be these days.
I've only been following V8 Supercars the last couple of years and the thing I love about Bathurst is how close the cars are running after 6+ hours of racing. In a sense it's a shame for sports like the WEC. While I love the sport, I get a little bored at times at the ease (obviously not 'easy') at which cars can go a lap down.. but that's the nature of the beast I guess!
Cars being close after 6 hours only counts if there was no safety car which is nearly impossible. however it DID happen last year, 4+ hours of non-stop green flag brilliance.

Erebus Mercedes did get a win this year with Lee Holdsworth (Winton 500), but that was no thanks to their engine, which still is the Achilles heal of that car. In fact Mercedes has been overshadowed by the storming appearance of Volvo in the Gary Rogers outfit. Scott McLaughlin got in two wins, 6 poles and a few podiums, but the car had a few issues with the alternator resulting in DNF's. Also Robert Dahlgren is going through the same difficulties as Alex Premat and Maro Engel before him.
Don;t know who you mean with "Erikkson", but I'm guessing Mattias Ekström. Well, as Triple 8 don;t have a third car in Bathurst, he's not on the roster.

Last year was the first year in many without a safety car in the last hour. And 'safety' cars create safety cars.
Last years race was good.
BUT the minnows were given advantages too with a mandated number of stops. At this time the 4 valve engines need more fuel to get remotely the same pace. The traditional engines would win by a far greater margin as they could get away with one less stop.
And this year again on race pace the Fords or Holdens will win. They will probably tie Whincups hands behind his back to make it more 'fair' on the others.
So even if they race, it will still have a level of choreography. The days Brocks wins of the 70s and 80s would not be tolerated!
We may see a Volvo on pole though. Young Scott has the pace and Garry Rogers are putting together good cars. Though I doubt he will be on the outright pace after 40 laps.
I am so dirty over V8SC scheduling the media day at the same time as the 12 hour I am tempted to not go as my little protest, but I know I am full of sh!t and will be there from Thursday til Sunday
Car #1 lost the race on Lap 92, 430 km before the finish! Just couldn't get it back afterwards. The Bright/Tander/Lowndes fight was awesome to see as well.
The 12 hours isn't a threat, the last three 1000 races have been decided by less than a second all up. You can't beat the 1000km V8 race - the 12 hours isn't even in the same class - they should embrace the 12 hour for the positive effect it has on Australian motorsport. Motorsport is tiny here, the more people and events the better.
I've really been enjoying V8s this year - as a Lowndes fan it's been annoying to watch him fade as Whincup found form - Frosty hasn't been as strong as he needs to be, but he could change that through the endurance races in terms of points.
As a kiwi I have been impressed/happy with Scott McLaughlin, he's been awesome and the Volvo has been pretty good if a bit unreliable, and it's even interesting that it's problems as far as tyre wear are the opposite to the rest of the field. I would like to see some more consistency from Coulthard and van Gisberg. It is also nice to see HRT coming good and being able to challenge Red Bull.
Alex Premat was actually pretty good at Sandown - initially I reacted with the usual "why do they keep asking him back" but he had a really strong race. I'd like to see Craig win Bathurst, but regardless there are always enough surprises and/or excitement to make it a good one to watch.

I'm actually hoping Premat can return full-time in Australia in 2015. He already has a year experience over Dahlgren and was only ousted because Volvo wanted a Swedish Driver (shoulda picked Ekström outta DTM then )
Thanks Victor, sorry I didn't spot it. But Skaifey's lap is great. I would like to see Hamilton and Rosberg give a corner by corner commentary while blazing around at 9.5 tenths!
Next year no v8 sc drivers allowed to race the silky Ferraris, McLarens etc in the bathurst 12 hour which is a shame, #bastards. At least they will ply their trade muscling these unwieldly so-called "race cars" here in the 1000km.

Brock and to a lesser extent Johnson used to do that when racing. And dont forget the racecam pioneer Peter Williamson too. These the days before the near mandatory 20 to go pacecar so they were racing for the lead, not just to stay somewhere near the front.
Brock in particular was oh so casual, talking with his hands while on pace setting laps.
Bathurst race day is a day I look foward to every year. I gather a bunch of family and friends in my garage, fire up the BBQ, have the fridge in said garage fully stocked with copius amounts of alcohol and let the fun begin.
I'll be watching simultaneously with the NASCAR race as well, should be very confusing at 2am, particularly if they both start discussing Marcus Ambrose...

That will be devastating - SVG was absolutely epic in that race

Oh well, the way things are going the 1000 will be a GT3 race by 2017.
Headlines today 'Ford will be killed off V8 circuit at end of 2015'. Ford are pulling out of sponsorship then.
Though quite possible the series will be gone at the end of 2015 with the Foxtel deal that itself has nearly killed the series.
The majority of contributors on Advertiser on line [News Ltd] have pointed out the cars have no relevance to road cars, the Foxtel deal will preclude or limit their viewing.
Looking at Natsoft reults yesterday, the headline class at Bathurst has the second smallest entry. And really no entry was great. And the way they were crashing yesterday may have a smaller one yet!
Entrys, 28 Dunlop series cars 39 Aussie Racing Cars. 30 utes. 29 TCM cars and 23 Porkers where at least 3 so far are out of 109%. And I think they only get one qualifying session.
