But that aint no fun.

Fun?!

But seriously, if we are reduced to arguing about 2010 again in lieu of actual news or on-topic discussion, not even sure it's worth opening a new thread when we hit this one's limit shortly until there's actual news. So let's see, eh?

that's what i thought of. that's not memorabilia...that's a trophy room. the heads of his opponents.  i image there's a single leather armchair in that room and nothing else and he sits there with a glass of whiskey, admiring his trohies. glaring and grinning.

anyways, this is an interesting article:

  What was great for me, is being able to look at that and identify who the helmets belonged to. A driver's helmet really is his trademark.

It does not matter how committed you are, if you cannot get close enough to make a move, you can't do anything and defy the laws of the physics. He tried everything to get close enough, just as Lewis did against the other Renault, who also could not pass.

Exactly. Cars in front could DNF, or Hamilton could have won, in which case 7th would have been enough. But if he had made an all or nothing lunge and crashed out he wouldnt' even be in the game for other scenarios, as unlikely as they might be.

Alonso mentioned he got offers from other teams with good performance in the last year or so, I can only imagine he can be talking about Williams?

Yeah, most probably Williams because that's the only team the had a good performance scratching Merc, Red Bull.

That pic of Alonso and Ron . . . who would've ever thought it. Would dearly love to know what they're both privately thinking about this partnership.

Alonso's expression says all of this on the pic and more .. Like here we are, what everyone wants to see but never thought possible while at the same time displaying a strong character who is only there because he wants to win but not because Mclaren was the ultimate place he really wanted to be.
Ron is like **** "what have i gotten myself into.. ..Agh what that hell..this is F1..."

Obviously the dog that was the F14T negates any chance of Fernando wanting to bring documents over from Maranello thus ruling out Spygate 2!

So the website/Twitter account/F1 news site, Pitlane or Pitpass I don't recall their name unfortunately was right all along.  Was it a well hedged bet or fantastic intel?  Either way they get to stay in their current guise.

"You have to be honest with yourself - as long as you are, you think back and learn from the things you did. It is time to think of the future, and to be happy and competitive. That is what we want from this partnership. The other side, it is no longer 2007: it is not McLaren-Mercedes, it is McLaren-Honda, which is a completely different thing in my opinion. Jenson is not Lewis [Hamilton], which is completely different, and I am not the same as 2007. I had two years on my contract if I wanted at a very fantastic atmosphere. I am sitting here, ready for this challenge with McLaren-Honda, because I see no problems at all. I see this as a winning project: that is very clear."

Very telling quote from Fernando.

I find Dennis's quote much more interesting.

Dennis added that he believes Hamilton was a key player in the problems at McLaren escalating in 2007, rather than Alonso being solely to blame.

"To go back to that period, you look at this young guy, understandably perceived by many people as the chosen one," he said.

"But [he was] also someone who had immaturity, and really, who struck the first blow?

"I would say Lewis had his role to play in starting this process which escalated."

Hardly surprising. Of course Alonso wasn't the only one to blame and Hamilton played a big role in what happened in 2007, that's no news for anyone, but it's good that RD says it.

But it doesn't matter, many Alonso bashers will keep forever their mantra of "Alonso only one to blame on 2007" and "Alonso is a poison". They will say now that RD only is trying to please Alonso, and that he is lying...

He had his own reponsability for sure, but he is not the evil some people keep saying he is. And time is proving it.

Well let's see... the two guys who had a real problem with each other back then are now teaming up again, so it must have been the other guys fault they had issues before! Cheap words from Dennis. But it really is a bit of a deflection tactic to ward off questions about the Alonso/ Dennis relationship.

Fernando Alonso, some few moths ago:

"As I've said many times before it wasn't a problem with Lewis, we had a very professional relationship and there were very competitive people inside the team - that was quite normal," Alonso said. "I think in 2007 the team didn't work as we wanted. It didn't work because I was not happy with some of the philosophies and the team management at that point and had more possibilities to go into different teams the year after and we decided to go on from there. But I never had a problem with Lewis and it's not a surprise today we still have a good relationship."

Sure, and some solely blamed Dennis, some solely blamed Hamilton. Nothing said in amongst that PR fluff gets Alonso off the hook of behaving like an arse in 2007.

Like an arse? Then you will agree Hamilton and probably even Ron himself behaved like arses too. But that's not a so popular comment here...

Alonso talking about "no problems with Lewis" doesn't mean, imo, that he wasn't upset with some things he did, but because he understands rivalry can sometimes be hard. Alonso and Lewis are probably the two most competitive guys in F1, and they had a really hard time competing and even fighting each other, that's why they respect so much.

Fact is that we don't know the whole story, but it's unfair to put the blame solely on one of them, being ALO, RD or HAM.

Seriously... some of the bashers need to get this tattooed on their foreheads:

"nɘɿɒ⅃ɔM ƚʇɘl ɘʜ nɘʜw ɿɘbɿo ǫniǫǫɒǫ ɒ nǫiƨ oƚ bɒʜ ƚɒʜƚ ɘno ylno ɘʜƚ oƨnolA ƨɒw yʜW

If he was the problem.... it doesn't make sense.  You have to do that if you have knowledge about how things really went down.  Now Ron is just confirming that what the public were lead to believe, is in fact not true... anyone that doesn't read tabloids and with half a brain knew that already.  Maybe the gagging order was to protect "The Chosen One"

I just want to say one last thing about it ..

2008: Lewis Hamilton won the F1 World Championship in the last race, Jenson Button seems out of F1 but he's got to have a seat, JB won the F1 World Championship the following year.
