Hi all,

Ive recently been told that Williams had planned on the championship winning FW14B only being a stop gap at the beginning of the 1992 championship before they intended to introduce their brand new car the FW15 (A). However it eventually never raced.

Note the FW15 C was the car that they raced in 1993 following the track and tyre width rule changes that season.

I've been told that Patrese even used the FW15 in the 1992 San Marino Grand Prix practice at Imola, and even actually shunted it at Tamburello in a scene very similar to Senna's fatal accident in 1994.

Does anyone have any photos or further stories of the true 1992 spec FW15 (A). It would be great to see them!

Thanks,

Phil

I think I have found one photo of Prost testing the 1992 spec FW15.

  • Nose seems far wider than 1993 but there are no horns at the front suspension points like in 1992.
  • Undercut sidepods seem less aggressive than 1993 but 1992 they were flat.

Could this actually be the stillborn FW15 (A)?

I'm surprised no one has any information on this car. Is it a post better suited in another forum perhaps?

What other forum do you have in mind?  Is there any other half decent historical forum?

Exactly why I asked. I guess I really meant is this better suited to the technical forum rather than Nostalgia.

I think it belongs here.  The Technical Forum tend to focus on the here and now.

Give it time, a lot of folk only look in here once in a while.

The report for the San Marino GP In the 1992 edition of Autocourse mentions Patrese shunting his FW14b at at Tamburello at. Test prior to the GP weekend. The technical review for Williams in the same book mentions Adrian Neweys intention was for the FW 15 to be used later in the 1992 season but that the performance of FW14b made this 'superfluous.'

I haven't come across any pictures of FW15's a or b but Imagine that they would have been externally little different from the 'c' save for the wider tyres and more elaborate front wing end plates permitted under the 1992 regulations.
