Porsche Motorsport later tweeted Webber was not injured,

Thank goodness for that

Relieved to hear he's ok. You know, for most drivers that'd be the biggest impact of their career but Webber's had at least a couple even scarier than that already!
No questioning his bravery, that's for sure.

Good to read he wasn't injured!
Posted 01 December 2014 - 00:24
Where have you seen this because I haven't seen any official updates apart from what we got during the race (via twitter Porsche saying the driver was OK, and then WEC releasing a statement saying "Mark Webber is reported to be awake and alert and taken to the circuit's medical centre for further examination."
No updates since despite being over 3 hours ago concerns me a little. I was hoping to have heard confirmation by now that he is indeed uninjured.
Posted 01 December 2014 - 00:32
I trusted Ragnar's post above
hope we'll get official confirmation then!
Mark has been taken to a local hospital in Sao Paulo and will stay overnight for precautionary checks. He is in a satisfactory condition and his team mates Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley have gone to see him.

No hang time. No flips. No forests.
Doesn't even crack the top three.
Good to hear he's okay though.

Another big one by Mark - thank God he is okay.
Also Tom Kristensen's final race - he finished 3rd - what a nice career he had.

Glad he is ok. Has been an overdose of sports related injuries in the last 12 months.
Posted 01 December 2014 - 02:27
Geezsus that looked nasty!! Damn Mark is like a cat with 9 lives lol. Pity he couldn't finish the last race with a win but at least it sounds like he is ok!

Isnt to many big hits what ended Darios career? It's good that hes ok, but I hope he will be racing again if he want to.

That's true. Look, for example, at his pass on Alonso at Eau Rouge from a couple of years back, which was a couple of inches away from being as big a smash as he's ever been involved in. Never let it be said that drivers who are vocal about safety are chicken...

I don't think Marks had too much in the way of head and spinal injuries though, thankfully.

Have there been any up-dates about how Mark is this morning? I'm stuck at work so have no access to twitter/facebook but certainly the main motorsport sites haven't reported anything.
I've still not seen any reports about any injuries he may have suffered (except for those statements that he is concious and alert and is in a satisfactory condition. I hope he is un-hurt but I am a bit concerned by the seemingly lack of information - had he been totally OK I would have expected confirmation of that. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him.

This update has just come through
http://www.autosport...t.php/id/117001
Basically bruising, concussion and a stonking headache. He can't remember the accident.
Posted 01 December 2014 - 14:02
IMHO the most alarming thing was the fire burning on th car well after the crash - most unusual these days.
No info. on what was burning. I hope it isn't a new safety problem associated with all the Hybrid stuff on cars now,

I wonder if that was the last we see of Mark Webber as a driver

Not on your nelly. I bet you a penny to a pound Webber will be there in June at Le Mans.
It's only a pity it's the end of the season, because rather like falling off a horse, once his headache subsides I'm sure Mark will be wanting to get straight back in the saddle. Not sure when Porsche is next expected to test? I expect there's no chance of running until next year now?

Why? It was just a big accident that numerous sportscar drivers have had (Anthony Davidson at Le Mans a few years ago broke his back yet he has come back).I wonder if that was the last we see of Mark Webber as a driver

If backflipping, twice, at Le Mans in 99 didn't stop, this certainly wont.

That should be a recordable TBI, I don't know if the FIA have considered it in long term health effects however it ought to be no different than NFL, or any other sport that now monitors serious head knocks.

Good to see Webbo's ok.
Also good to see the V4. If the airbox wasn't there - then you'd perhaps say it's transverse!
Posted 01 December 2014 - 18:02
Gees he's had some big ones over his career.
Eau Rouge in F3000
Le Mans loop the loop
F1 loop the loop
2 x Brazil now
It's funny, isn't it, all that with nothing worse than bruising and a concussion... and yet in two separate mountain bike crashes he's broken both his leg and his shoulder. Seems racing drivers often do themselves more harm pursuing their hobbies than they do on the track. Racing is probably one of the safest 'dangerous' sports around nowadays.

Yet a concussion can lead to severe problems later on as Franchitti experienced with his third concussion. They shouldn't be taken lightly at all. He is not "not injured". He has just had a head trauma.

Yesterday I was a lucky boy. The correct angle of impact saved me. Thanks everybody for your incredible messages and support. #recovering
Seriously. That was a hell of an impact with a concrete wall. Could have easily been a much worse outcome.
Posted 02 December 2014 - 02:12
Didn't they install a SAFER barrier on that wall?
Posted 02 December 2014 - 03:01
While getting concussion is not very good esp multiple long term, have you seen the amount of concussions some rugby and especially AFL players get?? Crazy.
Posted 02 December 2014 - 03:27
He will be back! I'm sure he will continue to push more. Happy to see him all ok
Posted 02 December 2014 - 03:34
I'm sure that if Webber sat in the parked race car long enough, it would still start tearing itself to pieces while cartwheeling.
