How dare you! Are you trying to say this looks idiotic? Clearly you don't have any style!

Tbh I'd say all baseball caps are lacking in any sort of style, all baseball caps look ridiculous on an adult male.

I don't think we'll see either McLaren driver fighting for the 2015 title but it's possible. Just look back at 2012 with Fernando and Clifford. I think fighting for podiums in 2015 is a very good starting point.

I do expect McLaren to be stronger than most ppl think. With the extra time Honda had to develop their engine, I think it's possible for them to have the 2nd best PU by the end of 2015 and I fully expect them to challenge for the 2016 WCC/WDC.

As we've had the priviledge of seeing over the last few years, give Fernando a podium capable car and he'll drag it into the title fight anyway, he's an absolute podium machine.

Is Alonso dropping a livery hint here?

"The association McLaren-Honda means a lot," he said. "When I was a child growing up I saw the battles between Senna and Prost, these famous colours and domination.

For those of us that are a fan of the old livery, we can but hope. I don't think they'll go with it myself and it's more likely that Alonso was standing next to a bunch of 80s McLarens whilst he was being interviewed and simply touched upon the livery.

That said, after the Vodafone deal ended the black and chrome livery they ran this year was a little reminiscent of the West livery. Probably more of a coincidence after removing the rocket red rather than aiming for a throwback look. If they insist on keeping the chrome I'd like to see them blend it with a little of the classic McLaren orange and black myself.

Basically a German flag? With a touch of Toyota (again) added.

I have to say that I've found myself pretty much hating all these DIY liveries compared to the ones that actually end up on the cars. Seems like the employed (hopefully) professional desingers do have a bit of a clue after all.

I want to see:

Williams style Matte White base with Orange (Mclaren) and Red (Honda) highlights. Loosely like the old marlboro design.

With Matte Black Wheels.

Exactly like a German flag - apart from having no red; orange rather than yellow - oh yes and with added silver (or chrome). Perhaps Force Ten has an unusual form of colour blindness?

I'm in. Sounds awesome.

Actually, imho there are several ways to go with this thing that would be completely amazing. I really hope it doesn't suck.

Put a German flag into instagram and you can see all kinds of color permutations that still feel exactly like a German flag. It's to do with the color order they follow each other.

I didn't do it, but thanks anyway! There's another out there that gives an orange coloring to the chrome on the current livery. It has an anodized look and looks pretty nice. Can't find the pic now though. I, for one, like the photoshoppers creating liveries. Some are far-fetched, but many look very professional and attractive imho.

I think that's just you mate but whatever, different strokes for different folk.

I think the design itself is great, even changing the colors for something more inline with Honda would work nicely. I forget the name of the poster here (BWT or something along those lines?) that put up a bunch of his DIY livery designs and thought a lot of them were stunning. I'm always disappointed these days with the real life designs many of the teams seem to go with. They really lack imagination. Williams for example really missed a trick with the Martini deal. I was expecting something fantastic but in they end they made it barely visible with the tiny stripes from the engine cover down towards the top of the nose cone. It's not like the car was exactly covered in sponsors stopping them from having the Martini colors more visible. But then a lot of people here seemed to like what they did with it.

Anyway back to the MP4-30..........tough to do anything other than speculate right now with it being a new project and little to no info on it! Does anybody know if Honda are likely to have designed their engine incorporating a similar layout of the turbo and compressor like the Mercedes? Would they have been too far down the line with their own design once the Mercedes layout became common knowledge to factor that in? Or would Honda's boffins have thought of this themselves do you think?

+1, and it's tough to say what Honda may have come up with. Like Merc, their initial engine rendering gave little away. I think they may have a trick or two up their sleeves.

10518341_798327193557926_299214336822147Firstly, if any sponsor is willing to write the right sized check, I'm pretty sure they can have the car in yellow and green if they want... McLaren's supposed "team colours" regardless of if these are silver and orange or red and white, go out of the window, for cash.

If that doesn't happen, I expect McLaren and Honda and their sponsors will desire to combine as much marketable heritage and contemporary branding into a design as possible.

Its important to note that however horrid or cheesy a reference to an old famous branding (Marlboro McLaren, JPS Lotus) is, it sells.

So perhaps such as this (based on this particular combo of sponsors).

The German flag colors are not on the car, but behind the car, going up in the background. I am amazed that you did not see it, Amphicar. Equally, I am amazed that Force Ten did not see that those German colors are not on the car.....that's much more than color blindness, then.  :p

No, I still don't see any red or yellow - just black, orange and grey. Perhaps Angela Merkel has changed the flag without telling me - after all, a previous Chancellor did just that!

Come to think of it, that earlier Chancellor changed the German flag to one composed from red, white and  black - exactly the colours that some nostalgists are suggesting for the McLaren livery..

You are right, Amphicar, the black/red/yellow stripes going down from the left in the background are indeed hard to spot. Let's leave it there and hope for the red/white livery anyway.

Why do people think a Sporting Director role has much to do with engineering and design aspects of the car? It does not.

He was TD at williams, but had a completely different, non-engineering and design related role at McLaren.

No worries, I am newish here, thought it a funny notion, that's all.  I have a friend who works at Mclaren and from what I understand, Michael is well regarded there.

It didn't lack imagination, it lacked money. If Martini don't pay for the space on the car, they don't get to have branding in that space.

They were probably done in '13 when everyone presumed Carlos Slim would be replacing Vodafone due to the Perez link.

I was TOTALLY hoping for an orange livery (still am really), but seeing these red/white liveries, and thinking about my favorite driver driving a Mclaren Honda in those colors still makes my heart beat a bit faster. To see Alonso get his third title, equaling Senna, after all these almost wins since 2006, would be awesome....

I worry more about such an iconic livery being tainted if the new Mclaren-Honda is a dog. I'm hopeful Mclaren will build a great car, I want to believe that Alonso would not have joined Mclaren unless he'd been given some assurances that Mclaren had a good car in the making.

I think these are old concepts from the time Checo was in McLaren and there were rumours of Telmex being a title sponsor... but Telmex has jumped on the Ferrari bandwagon.

Nice concept, though! Yeah, Senna-Prost clash of the titans comes to mind.

Dumb question... Is really Silver associated with McLaren or was it a Mercedes thingy given their association?

A black-orange livery would be awesome but it would look somehow like a Force India.

Lotus, on the other hand, is going from Renault to Mercedes for the 2015 season, with a team engineer revealing the extent of the problem to Auto Motor und Sport by revealing the switch "gives us 85 horse power more and 18 kilograms less".
