This thread is dedicated to the most consistent man of 2001, David Coulthard.

-One of the four drivers to not DNF so far (along with HHF, Alesi and Button!!)

-Great races so far, following the leaders (who have better cars) as best as he can and not cruising.

-1 great win with excellent driving in changing conditions.

-1 pole with excellent performance.

-Decent comments to the press, rational and true. A man that watches his words and delivers on what he says so far.

-The only man so far to stand on the podium all 4 races.

-Gentleman on the track. (Ralf spoke about how David left him room to pass at the Imola start. Imagine Rubens in the same place as DC. Even MS ;) )

Go David. I am with you and hope you win the championship you want so much.

So many people have called DC 'inconsistent' because he can't win race after race after race. This year looks like it will be between 3 teams not just 2. This could possibly suit a driver that gets on the podium all the time and has a race win here and there.

I always backed DC and will continue to do so.

Excellent performances to date.

Great driving by DC so far this season. You never notice him too much during the race (exept Brazil, of course), but he still brings his Mac back home to a podium place.

If he keeps this up, he might be the 1st ever WDC who takes the title incognito :)

Won't fit. Distinctive non-cube shape ;)

Disclaimer : This is not, I repeat, not an intentional insult against DC, and by no means should be accounted as a post which prevents some record from being clocked. This is simply a houmorus remark which may or may not be funny.

Nice. A pro DC thread for a change! :)

DC has been performing consistently well so far, it'll be interesting to watch if and when MacLaren get their act together and produce a world championship car again.

DC is off to a great start. In my opinion, his greatest accomplishment so far this season is that he has inched up to Mika's level. After years of being pipped by Mika (in most cases by just fractions of a second), DC has shown that he's no longer the second driver. There is still a long way to go, but DC is the strongest right now.

Keke Rosberg almost became the first WDC not to win a race in his title season in 1982.

In times when wins are spread between more cars, as now seems to be happening, the drivers who are in the hunt for the WDC at the end of the season tend to be the ones who have consistently scored big points, as DC has to date. Hopefully this run of form will continue (throwing salt over left shoulder with crossed fingers :))

23 posts above, 21 positive, 1 sarcastic, and 1 insulting about the man's physical appearance.
Overall it is amazing. To get that many positive posts about David on one BB is in itself a record.
So, here's to the man who stopped Michael's string of victories, and Michael's string of pole positions.
God speed David Coulthard.

Good one, Max...

About time some good things were said.

Not only is he one of the few to finish all races this century, he's the only driver to score points in every race.

Question:
Is there a driver who this century in F1 Grand Prix competition has scored points in every race?

Answer: David Coultard.

The new millenium has seen a metamorphosis from inconcistent to Mr Concistency... :) --- (so far ;) )

He even spent the latter part of Sunday's race testing the car!! :D

Geez, you can't give away titles. Hey, let's say DC 2001, RS 2002 and JPM 2003... It isn't a question of who deserves the title or not. Nobody deserved the title more then HHF in 1999 and nobody less then Irvine. It's not gonna happen. If DC want's the title, he has to fight for it. And not even then is he guaranteed it. He might win every race, have 3 DNF's and the guy always finishing 2nd gets the title... Don't get me wrong, I like David, but there are many more drivers in F1 that deserve to get the title. A lot of folks out there have fought hard, really hard. And they haven't even won a single race.

David always starts out strong, then gets passed up by his team mate. He's a decent driver, he just need to focus for an entire season if he wants it all. If he doesn't win it this year, I'll bet Mac drops him for one of the younger, faster guys like Trulli, Montoya, even Ralf would have a shot - though I'd doubt he'd leave Williams at this point. (I don't know what those drivers contracts are like, I just use them as an example).

Isn't Heidfeld a Mercedes driver? He's looked pretty good this year in a car with much less $$ than the Mac. has.

Max, I looked at forix.com and Frentzen went out in Brazil on lap 63 because of electrical problems. My list of drivers who have completed every race is: Alesi, Button, and Coulthard, which makes Coulthard's achievement even a bit better...never mind that he's tied for the WDC.

I keep waiting for his mental lapses...I was even thinking before the start that it was time for him to make a false one :) He hasn't yet. But the season is long, there's still plenty of time. Last year the beginning and end of the season was all Ferrari. Who knows what will happen this year. That's why I find F1 so fascinating to watch.

tifoso, my info came from Forix too.
It seems that HHF had covered enough laps to be classified as 11th in that race. I looked at the forix classifications and that's why I wrote that.

Later I remembered I had seen him retiring, but I guess it is a trivial matter now. :)

David certainly seems to be quite inspired this season, more so than any season before it seems. Aparently he wants to show that he is every bit as good as Hakkinen, and so far this year he has been showing it. His qualifying had been less than spectacular until Imola, but his race runs have been outstanding. It's good to seem him doing so well, and I hope he continues to maintain this level of performance. I'd like to see him get a WDC, he has done yoeman's work for McLaren over the last 5 years, and a WDC would be a hell of a reward. The emergence of Williams can only help that effort for DC, if he can continue to score podium finishes.

Also, was it just me or was that one of Mika's least inspired race perfomances in recent memory??

DC is one of the few guys that you don't end up hating after you hear him talk. What he says is always truthful and balanced. He's a gentleman, and a pretty damn quick driver. As a MS/Ferrari fan who has now gotten some championships, I would not mind seeing DC earn a WDC.

Zeus (and others), We simply don't know whether DC (or any media personality) is "a gentleman" or not, we only judge the IMAGE. TV is an illusion, and people on it judged via the edited, contrived and manipulated 2 dimensional screen. It's power is in the apparent portrayal of reality. Do NOT believe the hype.

Having said that, his driving seems to have been excellent so far this year, even if his tactics and awareness have been lacking. To a new, focussed and consistent DC I say, keep it up.

I have been very impressed with DC so far this year. Could it be that he wil carry this kind of speed & racecraft throughout the season? He has always been very fast but unfortunately not all the time. Maybe this is the season that DC steps out of Mika's shadow. Time will tell. Anyway, a great start for him so far both in the car and in the pressroom.

Well, it got close to the old record (17 replies without an insult), but could not better it. Things got questionable at 12 and then the above comment came in at 15.

It was a good try, none the less.

I prefer to think of the term "cube" not as an insult, but as a sweet nickname ;)

Too early to call a changing of the guard, imho. I would be very surprised if Coulthard outpointed Hakkinen by year end. Schumacher odds on to win the the championship. Montoya rather than Ralf odds on for a future WDC. :) jus' guessin'

In Britain the odds for the WDC title are :
MS 1.57
DC 2.5
RS 17
MH 21

So the gambling people think, that it is more than 8 times probable that DC becomes the WDC than MH. I would advise, that in this situation put your money on MH. You may loose your money, but the odds are GREAT. McLaren might become the best car, when TC is back again. And in WDC points MH has outscored DC 4 times out of 5 at the season end.

I just read this thread - it was going so well, and then daydream pops up. What is it with these people with their hatred of Coulthard? He has always seemed a decent enough guy, he's made a few errors, but then who hasn't? And this year, he is going very well indeed (he must be the only driver to complete the full number of racing laps so far this year?) and is definitely a contender. I just hope that McLaren see what is happening with Hakinnen (whatever it is?) and put their full backing towards Coulthard for the WDC. That way, they might get their covetted Constructors Champ as well.

You're right in most cases. MS is a prime example, the guy is not only a great driver, but a pretty solid actor too! (his little crying scene when he tied Senna's # of wins; the way he still does his little victory leap)

However, I would still say Coulthard is an exception to this rule. The way he always gives credit to others, and is complementry of someone else's success, and readily admits his own mistakes shows that he is a really decent guy. He doesn't seem to have an image, other than a really hot girlfirend and wearing the occasional pair of sunglasses.

Maybe he scares childern and kicks dogs on his spare time, I don't know, but I would be very shocked to find that DC was not a true gent.

I think he no longer has the hot - or any - girl friend. That's part of his new regime for 2001.

As to what he's like, of all media types several of these guys can say what they like as long as they don't expect to get sponsorships. Marketing images get marketing dollars, but being fast is mostly what gets these guys the drive.

I heard a long interview on the radio in Melbourne with DC, it went for around half an hour, he was a guest of the radio station. He was smart, good humoured, having a good time, and didn't comment on his talents.

But as others have said, so what ... and also I suspect that if I was earning millions a year for driving a mac and travelling the world, I might sound as pretty decent on the radio as well. Lucky bastard. He can even afford to pass up that female friend ...
