IMO, no reviews are better than the ones he narrated. The reviews they make today are boring as hell. No humour whatsoever, they are only an advert for Bernie Vision and they focus on the first four cars only. They don't even bother to tell you about the news in between the races.

I have most of the FIA review tapes and I can say without hesitation that he is the most annoying commentator I have ever listened to. His commentary contained hardly any useful information at all just a constant string of puns. Listening to him say for the 500th time that Rosberg retired because he needed a smoke instead telling the viewer WHY he retired makes me want to fly to the UK and strangle him.
If you think Formula 1 is a 95% about Eddie Irvine jokes then these tapes are for you otherwise I'd recommend for example the 1988, 1991, 1994 and 1995 tapes as all being excellent.

You don't watch Clive James to learn anything - he's there for a laugh. He's a funny bugger. I've got a few of his books too.

That was just before the 1997 season, I felt sorry for Nicola Larini as Clive was ribbing him for having a girls name ;-)
I have the tape of that, unfortunately all of my video cassettes are in England tho

I agree totally but I'm collecting the review tapes to learn that Prost did not manage to close on Piquet because of fading brakes not that Prost was listening to harmonica music in his car.

yeah

I remember that, and they had Schumacher there by livelink. You don't often see them all together anywhere except races nowadays.

They did alright in 94, but the narration doesn't pull the heart strings like Clive's comments.
I've only been watching F1 since 95, and learnt most of my 80's history from the reviews (i'm too much of a lazy bugger to read books

I know one things for sure, i've got every review since 82 and i'll probably never watch any of the recent ones (2000 especially, that was a pile of ****) because they bore me to tears. I've nearly worn out the tapes on the 82, 84 & 86 reviews.

Errrr,
How about the 1983 Review for the worst commentating?
That British moron and some Fran Drescher soundalike?
A great season that has to be watched with the sound off.

I think that the reviews from 90 and onwards are the best. Informative and good shots from the cars.
I agree with karlth .... I don't care much to hear that Rosberg retired because he wanted a smoke

It's not THAT bad.
Senna's commentary on his first win was good.
Mansell's on his first win is dead boring.
How many times can one person use the word 'significant' ?

Katyama saying he would very much prefered to have become a mountain climber than a professional driver.

The guy has an absolute classic wit and is a lot funnier than a lot of people who call themselves comedians or humorists
Perhaps you should try watching it with that in mind.

There were a few in the 1982 review too.

There was one from a beach in Holland which was particularly funny!
Here is a little boy......and here is a BIG girl (as a topless girl runs on the sand)

I can't remember the last time I laughed as much at a TV program as I did with the '82 Season review.

BTW, if anybody wants those videos, you can buy them from nigel red5 who is a poster on this BB. I bought my tapes from him.

Up until that time, I had never heard of him but I have seen him on shows since then. I wish he would do more of the F1 reviews.
