Could it not be said that your statement highlighted that you maybe care a little too much about what people on forums say?

Seb was superb today, be happy with that.

That advice from one of F1's doom-mongers. Ok then...

At least a promising performance from SV has got all your peckers back up! ;)

I don't know why I'm wasting my time with this.

Of course I care, because this forum has a small bunch of members with whom I thoroughly enjoy conversing.

The sad part is that few of them waste their time in the F1 threads because the genuinely interesting/funny discussion always gets drowned out by petty arguing over who's right and posts like the above gem, 'did you even watch qualifying?' Why the eff do you care?

It's got nothing to do with me. It's got to do with the fact that if there were less annoying b73ching contests about how valid/invalid someone internet forum wacko's opinion was (self-reference here, btw), the F1 threads here would be more enjoyable. Posts like the above (mine, yours, and perhaps including this one) should be laughed out of here rather than propagated through some twisted internet version of natural selection in which the end goal is a massive waste of time and a lot of angry mods.

What you're reading is an admission that I want to highlight this and change it but don't know how other than what I'm doing (meaning that there's a good chance this effort is some bizarre stoichiometric combination of misguided good intention and futile railing against 'the machine').

The end of your post and P123's is a perfect example of what's wrong with RC's F1 threads. Racing is so much more than 'my driver' and the assorted fanboy wars. It's about having a good time--something which gets hard to do everytime I dare to think that I might venture into an F1 thread and have a shot at discussing anything for fun because everyone feels a need to defend their driver's internet status. You ever wonder why normal racing fans consider internet forums a waste of time? It's the mentality of the replies to my earlier post, right here. Sadly the F1 threads that do get amusing find a way to get themselves locked (chicken[s] come to mind). I've already had an ignored gripe about this earlier in the year.

And FYI, because I'm sure you won't be satisfied until the troll-like questions are answered, I did watch qualifying. Do you want to know why 'my peckers are up' this weekend? Look no further. There's so much fun that's gone on in racing this past week, and F1 is not the center of that universe.

You guys don't need to tell me I'm stupid and/or naive for expecting the atmosphere in these threads to change, either. I'm coming a little closer to that conclusion each time I drop in. The best part is that you guys don't even see that things could be better because you don't ever bother to read other parts of the forum enough, so you don't have any idea where I'm coming from anyway. No big deal. As I said, I'm not that bright, so even if this gets deleted and the mods go all DEFCON 1 on me I'll probably be back again anyway in the hope that one day, in defiance of all probabilistic theorems, the second law of thermodynamics, and some long forgotten Greek prankster gods, my synapses fire in precisely the right way, I get things right, don't come off as an a#$hat, and you guys actually get a taste of what it is you're missing elsewhere on here and I might actually cause something to change. Thoreau and one man and all that.   ;)

Ah, the good old 'fanboy' argument. All I will say is that the Indycar threads are fine and jokey and generally relaxed, but a little excluding for those not in the 'in-crowd'. They ain't perfect by any means, and I do recall one member giving up on them. Yes, racing is a lot more than 'my' driver, but for all the perfection of the Indycar threads it's strange that that attitude afflicts some participants when it comes to F1.

I was not saying that at all. I agree the atmosphere on here is quite rabid at times.

Fair enough.

I mistook your comments as a passionate defence of Seb (who gets a lot of stick around these parts, so I could get where you are coming from). I agree F1 is about having a good time. Why would I watch it otherwise? I like to debate about things with other fans, but who says that is not fun.

I think you can debate such things, and at the same time have fun.

I occasionally talk to a few ex-members off-board who are Schumacher/Vettel fans. Some of my favourite posters have different preferences. It is not the topics of discussion that is the issue, it is more the tone in which people respond to others (which I will assume you agree with). I think we are all guilty of going OTT on here when it comes to driver debates.

Hadn't heard about anyone giving up on them (unless it was you :p ), but I disagree about them being like a clique. The atmosphere in those is very similar to an internet version of a post-race worker social with a race on in the background.

I'm always welcome to having new participants in those threads. Why don't you stop in this season? I promise we don't bite newbies.   ;)

Though I do agree with the rest of your post, my experience on the internet inclines me to respectfully disagree with this bit about debating and having fun, which you seem to support by saying that we all get over the top sometimes. :p

I feel I need to extend the same invitation to you re: Indycar. It may take a few weekends to get used to (it did for me), but I promise it's worth it.

EDIT: The gist of this whole thing is that I just wish people would be a little more light-hearted in the F1 threads here. Not everything needs to be an argument.

But now we're all off-topic. Group PM is a thing, right? See you guys there, if you like.

This might have been asked in the last 12 hours or so, but why wasn't Q2 red flagged and paused? The rain was heavy then but they technically could still have run with all the danger that was present when Q3 was scheduled to start. It might have been beneficial for Ferrari to have sent a car out to get it red flagged as they would have waited until it dried up again.

What time CET does the race start tomorrow? Autosport site says 8am, but according to TV schedule it's 9am. Is Autosport forgetting about the clocks changing tonight?? Don't want to get up an hour earlier than necessary...

Keeping 8am as ridiculously early is a good reason for remaining childless! :rotfl:

Vettel is like Schumi in the wet, just knows where to put the car for maximum traction.

Hamilton is good in the wet as well, at least he was earlier in his career who can forget that drive at Silverstone, but I always get the impression he is a bit afraid of committing 100% these days.

And that move from Rosberg was just....weird. Did he mess up at the first corner or something? I couldn't see any obvious locking or being miles off line. Can understand maybe wanting to save the tyres for the next lap, but there was plenty of standing water left so the intermediates wouldn't fall apart instantly and as has been proved in the past you need to keep the heat in the intermediates to get the most out of them. His actions just don't make any sense...

https://www.youtube....h?v=WIZB3un2tFY

Hamilton clearly is afraid of committing 100% indeed.

Actually it would have been a travesty if the Merc hadn't got pole, that car is unbelievable - Lewis's 1st lap on the soaking track was stunning and somehow after that Mercedes very nearly messed it up and let Ferrari snatch pole. I have no idea what they were doing strategy wise with Nico 1st holding up Lewis on his lap where the tyres would have been best, and then him running his 2nd attempt in traffic, not their best day, luckily his initial lap was good enough. Nico should have done better - he admitted that in the PC but I expect him to make amends tomorrow when it counts.

Wow. I thought he lost it at penultimate corner even though I knew it was the pole lap... And I've only now just read your last sentence lol. If he had pushed any harder I don't think he would have been able to save that!

Great Seb is back!

Verstappen - wow.

Bottos - wtf? How does it feel to share same row with Ericsson?

It again shows that the Williams are poor in the wet (Massa only 2 places ahead of Bottas in Q3), lacking in downforce.

The fastest times from 2010 Malaysian Grand Prix practice sessions for comparison:

FP1 - 1:34.921 (Lewis Hamilton)

FP2 - 1:34.175 (Lewis Hamilton)

FP3 - 1:33.542 (Mark Webber)

The fastest times from 2015 Malaysian Grand Prix practice sessions for comparison:

FP1 - 1:40.124 (Nico Rosberg)

FP2 - 1:39.790 (Lewis Hamilton)

Ah, but think how much more fuel they used in 2010. And think of the neighbours - I bet they're pleased with how things have gone...

It's not all about the engine/PU.

Since 2010 they have lost a lot of downforce and tyre grip - by design.

Give them more downforce and grippier tyres they could certainly do a similar lap time.
