Though experts will often cite plunging TV figures and increasingly-sparse attendance at races for proof of NASCAR's steady downward coasting into irrelevant oblivion, the most confident proof I can provide is that even as recently as two years ago there was a thread for each race posted days in advance the first time a car was on track that weekend, and now it's almost a day after a genuinely good finish in the Busch race and at Talladega of all places and there's still no thread to cry about Logano winning again, or any Cup guy winning again. Which means people don't even care enough to bitch. That is a serious problem.

(Not to mention the guy who finally made your thread is from a country your main series doesn't even go to, made the thread in a hung over stupor on a Sunday morning with 9/10ths of the racing weekend done at his favorite oval of all the ovals NASCAR goes to, and was beaten to the US racing series thread making punch by a guy completely on the other side of the world who hopes your race ends quickly so he doesn't miss the start at Laguna Seca).

So let's get it over with:

Who is going to win today? Does NASCAR want Danica to stay or go?

(Btw if you click on Jeff you go to the Jayski page for today's race)

Why would NASCAR want Danica to leave?

And for the win, Jimmie.  Always Jimmie :drunk:

On the tube a few moments ago, two towering intellects: Kenny Wallace and Larry McReynolds. Watching them try to form sentences is a kind of theater of cruelty.

I think that NASCAR's policy of keeping the race interesting and unpredictable at the end at all costs is really counter-productive in the age of DVRs.  If races are always unpredictable down to the wire, why should I even watch the first 90% of them?  There isn't enough story developing during that set-up stage that stays relevant to the end to keep me from fast-forwarding through it at 8X speed.

This will be especially true today, where the first 90% of the race is just for driving around and hoping you won't get wrecked.  I'll watch the end live, because big ones developing live are always more interesting to watch, but other than that there is zero reason for me to spend my valuable weekend time watching the trains of cars drone on and on.

I have no idea, but every time I try to predict something NASCAR wants I'm five miles wide.

And I assume NASCAR wants to ride that pony into the ****ing ground...

Danica is more or less not important. She's hardly making a statement as a racer nowadays.

*sigh* As long as I live in Europe and especially Eastern Europe, this will never happen.

This sixstar thingy she mentions is like the Sunoco fuel for people? I wish I would get money for saying that I've typed this post on a computer assembled by some kid in China.

Those packed grandstands are pretty impressive! You probably could squeeze the F1 crowds of Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and some others on those grandstands and there'd be still more space than there is for the Nascar race.

Time to tweak the aero for the plate tracks again. The Cup cars can't do anything but run single file. Contrast with the Busch/Nationwide/Xfinity series race the previous day, those cars were everywhere.

PSP did have to battle with only fourth gear so she still did OK in my book.

Can someone tell me why the announcer who was raised by his sisters wears a driving suit in the booth? It looks desperate.

First top 10 for Josh Wise at his 113th attempt.  I think before today he had the record for most starts without one.  To be fair, he has spent about a third of his career start 'n' parking.

He'll have the doge on the back of the car at Daytona due to a fundraiser getting 10k. (Unless they manage to get a full car sponsor, then they'll postpone it).

His daughter however is running a full dogecoin/reddit livery!

Girl 2 to Girl 1 - "He sounds like he was raised by his sisters...I bet they made him dress up in all their clothes"

Jp

My friend just broke up with a 25 year old promo girl that complained that Michael Waltrip hit on her relentlessly and revoltingly. I'm not sure I believe her. It does seem that a NASCAR that is chasing female viewers should get him away from the front of any cameras or microphones.
