Any one know why Alonso and Hamilton are not testing?
From the OP: "Out of the total 4 days of testing allowed, 2 days must be given to a driver who has not raced in more than 2 F1 races."

oooppps missed that!
Okay so why was Rosberg/Button chosen?
Posted 12 May 2015 - 19:28
4 days of inseason testing - two sets of two, so each time 1 day will have experienced driver, one day will have a rookie. This time Rosberg and Button have a day, next time Alonso and Hamilton will have a day, and on both occasions, one day will be the test driver.

Gasly sure scored a good deal. Two slots in different teams.
Posted 12 May 2015 - 20:38
Gasly is a cool dude. Good on him.
I sometimes feel that Honda went full on radical with their PU design and are going full on conservative on their testing approach. Sounds like me playing poker.
I am no McLaren or Red Bull fan but I want these two teams right up there again.

surely everyone wants an even field so that the results are down to the drivers skill (and strategy)
and not just down to the colour of your car

Having missed yesterday's run with Force India, Pascal Wehrlein is well enough again to take over Rosberg's Mercedes for the day
Former Sauber driver Esteban Gutierrez will drive the Ferrari, while Pierre Gasly - fresh from his STR debut yesterday - switches over to Red Bull
Similarly, Raffaele Marciello goes from Ferrari to Sauber today, while Esteban Ocon will get his first run with Force India following a late call up
Having signed as a development driver over the winter, Alex Lynn gets his first Williams run today and Jolyon Palmer gets more time in the Lotus
Finally, two familiar race drivers - Jenson Button and Carlos Sainz - will also be out with McLaren and Toro Rosso respectively

Red flag for Marciello crash. He was driving for Ferrari yesterday. You would think they would give another up and coming driver a chance rather than two days for one driver with different teams.

Maybe because nobody is testing tomorrow?

Different track condition/weather i know, but this is 4 tenth faster than his Q2 time.Is Mclaren using the new pirellis too,or just the normal tyres?

I guess he`s on Soft tires because they have those in testing and Jenson was using them on aero runs earlier today. But either way it`s some kind of encouraging for McLaren because Jenson is still on track on some kind of 5-10 lap run.

haha everyone doing aero test

Would be interesting to know what tire. Here's interesting quote:
Button was back in the McLaren MP4-30 for the first time since describing it as "scary to drive" during Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix. The 2009 world champion was much happier with the handling of the car on Wednesday morning and duly set the third fastest time despite running on high fuel, just 0.047s slower than Palmer.

My feeling from actual quali is that though the upgrades worked McLaren Honda didn't get good setup and had some issues with driveability. Dunno how track compares to quali but it should be lot more rubbered in... but sitll, would be nice time for "high fuel" (I suspect they actually mean "enough fuel for a number of laps" not literally high fuel).

no "ear inlet" today

Any words from Gasly or Marciello comparing the two cars they drove?

From another thread...
http://www.espn.co.u...ar-pierre-gasly
Difficult with changing conditions how they exactly were comparing. According to him they are about the same in lap times (single or consistent...?) and he felt the RB was feeling a little bit better, but that could also be because of the conditions
.
Not much to say why Ricciardo is a bit faster in the last races (maybe he's just faster, the RB's is better in race trim, the car is slightly better for the tyres in a race or it's about set up).
Posted 13 May 2015 - 22:54
Very interesting. Actually at no point does he say the RB was a little better. He says that he felt a little better on the second day, that is his driving improved on the second day, as you would expect. He says several times that there is nothing or little between the cars, though it is hard to tell with the conditions changing. From another thread...

I bet there's a good reason for that too, Toro Rosso then RedBull loads of laps in both cars on the same tyres. I smell a big rat there. The result was a second quicker in the RedBull overall anyway which might or might not mean something. If they were comparing cars then how does this compare with the race pace on medium tyres from Sunday anyone?

I think both cars are very close aerodynamically. They probably have different pros and cons. For example I think STR is a bit ahead in the high speed corners whereas the RB11 is better in the slow corners. Both are fundamentally limited by the Renault engine.
Agreed, as much as it's saying, as much it's also not saying.
The only conclusions you can make out of it, there`s not much speed difference in the cars and the RB is not notoriously bad to drive compared to the STR.
What it doesn't say however, if there isn't a lilte speed difference between the cars (it could be that one car is 0.1/0.4 seconds a lap faster, but they would need to drive both cars under the same conditions with both cars having a good set up) and also not if one of the cars is better in a race trim and the other better in Qualifying. But there's not a gap of 0.6/1.0 seconds between them (which we already knew).

I don't think there's any official publication for testing unfortunately.
Would be nice to have all the raw data to analyse.
