Did Jenson run with the new aero parts? If he did, then it is not too encouraging.

At the Spanish GP Alonso and Button outqualified both Saubers and both Force Indias, I don't get what's going on..

In the next few races, McLaren decided that the best strategy is to sit in the pits. Whereas, the other cars decided to use sessions to improve.

Other PUs improved, Honda PU did not (much) and they are using scrap parts this race?

Alonso speaking to the BBC saying (I'm paraphrasing) that he expects Hungary to be more of the same, with Belgium and Italy being worse still. Relative to the leaders, of course - as there's not much further to go down the grid.

Alonso on the BBC:

Hungary will be the same, Spa will be worse and Monza will be worse. Best qualy of the year only 1.5s off Ferrari with same tires.

2.2 of the best Merc Q2 time on the second longest track. Also Alonso only lost 0.2 seconds in S2.

It would be interesting to see what Honda and McLaren are doing to improve the PU without major token use? Are they improving cooling and seals and ERS?

Either way no one was expecting this level of performance at this stage of the season. Still far too slow.

Alonso to catalan TV:

At the 4th race we realised what the situation was. There will be worst races in the future. If you expect points, better turn off your TV until Japan.

Alonso is about as reliable as Ron and Arai. They all talk sh*t. Only recently Alonso said "4-6 races" maximum and McLaren would be making huge strides. Don't believe a word this team says any more, they are in dire straits.

Is more like "hopes" and not "facts" to be honest. But I agree, we should believe nothing until they prove it on the track. They already give us some "deadlines" for improvements and failed in all of them.

For Alonso's sake I hope someting changes soon. I firmly believe Honda is a much bigger problem then McLaren. Alonso in McLaren is like....Djokovic playing with a wooden racket.

Force India were using the 2014 chassis then. They're using the 2015 chassis now and Sauber have the upgraded Ferrari PU.

McLaren and Fernando got a lot of criticism here for being too "cheerful" and people wanted here more objectivism. Now we got it, so what is the problem? I guess what Fernando said is what the reality is, we should brace ourselves. Tbh, I think the future of the whole project is in question. We will see what McLaren is going to do, but I don't think they will stay with Honda if things are not going to change for the better next year. What EB said (for Honda winning in the third or fourth year is enough but for McLaren that is too late) I think made it quite clear that there are some deadlines for Honda to deliver.

So McLaren/Honda didn't improve at all.

One thing seems evident. Gone are the times where a team could shop for the best engine (I am not saying the current Honda is), bolt it into a decent chassis and go compete at the sharp end of the grid. Must be a though realisation for Ron Dennis.

And what engine would McLaren be using then?

That is for McLaren to figure out. There is a lot on the line, another season of this can destroy McLaren. Even being a midfield team is better financially and can give them a chance for long-term survival. I am sure they could make a deal with Ferrari, if they wanted to. F1 is unforgiving and very, very expensive, sooner or later, if this will go on longer, McLaren will have to start to think about their own future in F1.

And to think that after Caterham went under I thought Manor wouldn't have anyone to race against...

For the first time I would say the chassis can't be that bad. S2 time of ALO was quite okay.

Good job by ALO, his lap live on air looked aggressive as always, without a mistake. He showed his talent and experience, keeping in mind his very little running the whole weekend. BUT had hardly TV-time, looked the whole weekend this 2 tenths slower than ALO, but it was his first weekend with the new parts (and the newest: chassis, etc.), so I guess he needs more track time to find a better set-up (remember his team radio about balance in FP3).

McLaren are much faster than Manor...

I don't understand why they didn't put new PU on both cars and take +25 place again... I guess the new PU is not ready yet.

McLaren are much faster than Manor...

...and much slower than everyone else. They can't even beat cash-strapped Sauber for Christ sake!
