What else does the contract say? ...The devil is in the details that sort of thing!
Posted 20 May 2015 - 07:53
As someone mentioned on the contract thread -
Toto: "You grateful, you smart Lewis"
Posted 20 May 2015 - 07:55
Add in a few dozen million here and there as bonus for winning a couple of raises and Mercedes is well on its way to making an important contribution to F1's cost cutting agenda!
On a more serious note; as long as Mercedes wants to keep Hamilton, and evidently they do, he'd be silly to go elsewhere.

$100 million a year for 3 years or $100 million over 3 years?
Judging by the figures we've seen bandied around recently, I'd say both.
Posted 20 May 2015 - 08:06
Absurd amount of money.
Posted 20 May 2015 - 08:07
Good for him!
Posted 20 May 2015 - 08:09
Any delay in the signing was solely due to Hamilton negotiating and checking the contract all by himself. He had decided to not employ a manager to spare himself the hefty expenses.

Senna used to earn that didn't he in the early 90's as far as I remember so it's no big deal to me.

$100 million a year for 3 years or $100 million over 3 years?
Over the three years.
Posted 20 May 2015 - 08:11
$100 million a year for 3 years or $100 million over 3 years?
The latter, according to the source.

So that's 30 mil. € per year. How much are Vettel and Alonso earning, also around 30 mil. per year right?
Posted 20 May 2015 - 08:22
Base pay probably would't even need to touch it while maintaining his chosen lifestyle. In the scheme of things, $2,5mil / mth isn't that much considering the volume of money flying around the F1 circus.Christian Nimmervoll @MST_ChristianN

His bonuses will obviously mean he'll get plenty more, on top of merchandising and other things he does. It's a lot of money, but at the same time, if he wanted that much and Mercedes said no, and they couldn't come to an agreement, then he'd go somewhere else. Evidently they're ok paying him that much, so it's no big deal.

As far as I can remember the best Senna got was $1M per race in 93 which put him at $16m. I seem to recall Prost mention that his entire career earnngs from F1 were $40M.

Which according to a old-new type price calculator I found and a bit of conversion (Which I know won't be completely accurate before anyone throws a hissy fit) equates to about $29.6m per year for Senna.
Either way, if they're willing to pay it then take it. I doubt anyone here would object to a pay rise stating they are being paid too much.
Posted 20 May 2015 - 08:58
So is Lewis the highest paid driver now in terms of base? Excluding Seb's mahoosive Golden Handshake of course.
Posted 20 May 2015 - 08:59
Tbh it can be read both ways - $100 million a year is a bit crazy if it is that though
No it can't. The whole article could be bogus of course, but what it says is quite clear.

Big start to the #MonacoGP week, Lewis Hamilton has agreed to a new Mercedes deal. #F1 autosport.com/news/report.ph…

From that link:
"The reigning world champion's protracted contract negotiations have been a major talking point during the 2015 season."
This says a lot about the general excitement levels of the 2015 season so far.

Beers are on @LewisHamilton , that'll be for all of us. New contract and a pay rise. He deserves it, you're worth what somebody will pay you

You must be pleased though! So more Scooby snacks and a couple of new feeding bowls. One a 'designer' edition with a picture of Lassie on the side, the other a rare limited edition bowl with 'The Littlest Hobo's' paw print in the centre. Good times ahead for you.

does this finally lay to rest the tiniest lingering possibility of Alonso to Mercedes & Lewis to Ferrari ?

No, because rumor has it that there is an Alonso clause in the new contract. This clause can be taken if performance conditions are not met, with the activation date being the 24th December of the contracted year.

So Lewis will be on 6 world championship titles by the end of 2018? Unless rules change meantime and Mercedes loses the edge. Or there is an odd year, where Hamilton has an off year or tyres do funny tricks like in 2013 and Ferrari capitalizes.
