There's still two unoccupied grid slots, and that's including Haas who's meant to come in next year.
I'm struggling to see why anyone would want to come in right now though. Any prospective entrants must be seeing how the bottom of the grid are being screwed by Bernie.

OK BRO
SORRY CAPS

Open the Franchise, get the Usd 40 million guarantee back, allow Customer cars, not sure I see any obvious applicants for the two spots, expect once they are there will make sense. Presume we will get a handful of Manufacturers being suggested.

No need to be sorry should be me, me fat fingers hit the caps locks and not the shift... Not used to a computer keyboard now-a-days...

Let me guess. Colin Kolles and Stefan Grand Prix will be the only ones to register an interest...

OK, I vote we have a kickstarter. Atlas F1. We can vote on the drivers, although whether we could actually afford Alonso and Hamilton might be another question.
But it should be easy. Bung a few bob to Gianpaolo Dallara and Cosworth, knit the two together, sell one seat to a dictatorship and ensign14 we can go on hollybobs to the Grands Prix.

Or, more likely, they've had some serious inquiries for entry.
Prospective teams are required to apply within a month. That timeline implies interested parties have already done their homework.

Fair enough.
But it'll still be Colin Kolles and Stefan Grand Prix.

A team for a Honda engine, maybe?
#14
Posted 28 May 2015 - 19:54
ART with Honda engines.
Vandoorne and Magnussen...
Boom.
#15
Posted 28 May 2015 - 19:54
Or a Mercedes affiliated team?
A team that could adopt the same startup philosophy as Haas, by using Mercedes design facilities and powertrain supplies.
Makes business sense for big teams as they have spare windtunnel and engineering capacity.

Quite likely as well.

Not quite, the end of June deadline is for submitting an expression of interest, the application isn't due until the 1st September.
What it does suggest is someone has been making inquiries about a 2017 entry, as it is not possible to start up a team for 2016 if the decision isn't due until the 30 September.

Customer cars will be the best thing that has happened to f1 in many decades.

This seems like a completely idiotic time to open up for applications.
Please apply to join F1 in 2017... we've no clue what the rules will be at that point. You may be able to run a customer car but also may have to build your own. The engine rules could be just about anything. We don't even know what size the wheels will be.
Good luck!
Maybe an attempt to keep up the FIFA in the incompetence stakes.

For now, I can be optimistic!
If/when the new team(s) go bankrupt, then I can admit I was a fool. If/when they succeed, I can rejoice in the fact that new teams can succeed!
As I said, optimistic... perhaps VERY optimistic...

Abt Racing, with Daniel taking the first seat and Adrien Tambay as #2?
An unofficially works supported Audi entry to test the waters perhaps?

The rules aren't really that uncertain. Customer cars are likely to be talked to death, and the engines are only going to see minor adjustments, if anything.

Can see it know, steel brakes, no power steering, 2 button steering wheel and looks like a Mack truck with cb radio.
Is this Bernie trying to deflect off MGP stupidity by showing how even more stupid the fia is and making MGP in Monaco look like genius by comparison.

Customer cars as per Bernie would be f1 issued, I don't even see how they could have one even ready by 2017.. Let alone by 2016 and let alone the teams agreeing before 2017...
a 2014 or 2015 car - No?
#29
Posted 28 May 2015 - 21:57
A 2014 car would probably not meet the 107% rule by the start of 2016...and which car, engines would have evolved a lot by then since 2014 so prob zero chassis available.. And who's would it be... They don't have time to do one from scratch. All smoke and mirrors again.

No, this is Caterham's slot ;)
I can only guess/hope they want 13 teams on the grid, like in the good old days of 26 cars qualifying. Of course, Forza Rossa won't happen and some other team could fold so we won't have that.

They've either had interest from a manufacturer who wants to do F1 the Toyota in-house way, been told that a customer car ready team (probably ART) wants to join by one of the current manufacturers, has had interest from an independent rich guy who wants to start a team, are panicking that teams are about to collapse and are desperate for any crook to fill and ever depleted grid, are trying to make sure the 3 car teams don't happen in a round-a-bout way, actually care for the sport and recognise more cars means more excitement, want Manor out by getting them out the top 10 and the money that comes with it, are trying to work how much interest there is in F1 for a future revolution or have gone completely nuts and think the best time to attract investors to set-up new teams (an already costly experience) is when the rules are completely up in the air, the sport is in turmoil, cost cutting is out the window and infighting is at its highest ever. Take your pick/picks.

And what engine would Audi use?? Lol. Mercedes not a chance, Ferrari not a chance. Honda very much doubt so what a Renault. When will people realize Audi don't want in, serves no purpose to them and they'd need to have an engine already Dino' testing by now just for 2017!!!

I might be wrong on this one, but two of the big teams that opposed this are McLaren and Williams, but that early 2000's. Or have i got this mixed up

Sure it will have steel front wing so no worry over flexi wings. Lol.

They don't need to start from scratch if they use the old 2014/2015 (modified) design cars so it could happen quicker than you think...
If Manor can turn a 2014 car into a 2015 specification what could the others do in the same time? or longer....

Worked out well for Caterham.
Oh.

Oh.
Caterham wasn't such a bad team, it was poorly managed. They could have become a solid midfield contender, they had flashes of it in early 2012, they should have had points in Valencia, but they decided to go down the blown floor route and that led to their downfall.
#48
Posted 29 May 2015 - 07:03
Anyway, the fact that they have opened up a tender suggests someone wants to join in 2017. I don't know who that might be though, I am sure will get info on applicants soon.

Explain how when NONE of the teams who might become them want them. As I see it all it is is the manufacturers further increasing their power in F1. Now Renault say could threaten to leave and take not just themselves but x customer teams tooCustomer cars will be the best thing that has happened to f1 in many decades.

If that's not the case then it's further evidence of the FIAs deludedness
