Really hope practice isn't a washout
Is it forecast to rain?

It doesn't look disruptive if it does. http://weather.gc.ca...x_e.html?id=WMN

Heavy rain is forecasted for the evening up until the next morning. Practice should be dry. For the final Practice tomorrow rain is possible, a wet track is likely. Qualifying should be dry, but Forecast can change fast in Montreal. Race will be definitely dry.
I hope both FP1 & FP2 will be dry if the qualifying and race are dry too. I don't want another session like FP2 in Monaco with zero action on track.

I say Kimi wins this race.

It could be also earlier.
We could see a lot of action right away...

Yeah, also not very good for the rookies who, with their inexperience, need more time to set up their cars and need more laps to get a better change of hitting their Qualifying laps right....it would be nice if it stays at least dry in FP1.

And of course, the annual week of paying attention to Jacques Villeneuve's comments has begun. Mercifully, it will soon be over.
What's wrong with his comments? I think there right on the money.. Every time !! Are you British then ? Is that it?

JVs comments are about as spot on as his music.

Jacques Villeneuve is like Eddie Jordan. They are polarizing. Many people think they are idiots, while other consider them personalities with actual opinions. And they differ from masses.
I personally have no problem with either. I have a suspicion they consciously like to add a controversial spin to some of their thoughts - just to get people talking about it.;)

Very grey here right now, there were spots of rain earlier ~6am and it looks like we may have light rain for FP1, but the heavier stuff looks set for midday, so FP2 might be interesting.

Can they run the supersofts in FP1 if they want? (if they think FP2 will be a wash out and FP1 stays dry).
I know they usually only run the set of tyres they have to give back at the end of the session but is there anything stopping them from using the set they have to return at the end of FP2 earlier in the day, I can't see anything in the regulations but might have missed something.

Mercedes ran two brand new super softs in FP3 in Monaco after the FP2 washout.
You mean the set not used from FP2???
I didn't think they could do that

^ (sorry can't edit)
Regulations of tyre use:
One set of "prime" specification tyres may only be used during the first 30 minutes of P1 and must be returned to the tyre supplier before the start of P2.
One further set of "prime" specification tyres must be returned to the tyre supplier before the start of P2 and one further set of "prime" specification tyres and one set of "option" specification tyres before the start of P3. If P1 and P2 are both declared wet one set of the tyres normally returned before the start of P3 may be retained by each driver but must be returned to the tyre supplier before the start of the qualifying practice session.
However both sessions weren't wet so I don't see how they would have been able to keep a set?

FP1 The teams get
3 sets of primes (one has to be used in the first 30 minutes of FP1)
1 set of options
After FP1 the teams give back the 30 minute tyre and one more set of primes tyres.
So in FP2 they have
1 set of primes
1 set of options
After the FP2 the teams have to give all tyres back (only if both practice were wet they can retained the tyres)
FP3 The teams get
4 set of primes
4 set of options
After the FP3 the teams have to give back one option and one prime tyre. And get one fresh set of soft tyres back which can be used in Q3
Qualifying
3 set of primes
3 set of options (plus one in Q3)
After the qualifying the teams give back the Q3-tyre.
So in the race they have
3 set of primes
3 set of options (if I'm right the guys who didn't achieved the Q3 get the Q3-tyre for the race, but I'm not sure about this)

You are right about that.
I'm confused how Merc could keep the set from FP2 for FP3 though - the only thing in the regs which would allow this is if both FP1 and FP2 were wet from what I can see.
Is it definite they ran 2 sets of SS in FP3?
(sorry this is horribly off topic but I guess the teams could find themselves in a similar situation this weekend so it would be nice if I can understand it)

I never heard that Mercedes keep the set from FP2 for FP3. I think they just used the same option tyre twice.

There was a report that teams were allowed to use slicks from Friday in FP3. It was the same for every team. I don't know how it was possible though. Maybe because it was the debut race for super softs this season?

Hello all, I'm in Montreal for the first time this weekend for the GP, and what better way to spend my first day than getting soaked in FP2!
I was just wondering if there are forum goers who are planning a drink tomorrow (Saturday) night, or perhaps know a good place for a drink? It would be great to meet up. Send me a PM if you have any plans that you wouldn't mind sharing.
Usually I'm traveling with my partner but she couldn't make it this time, so I'm here by myself
Cheers!
