So this is probably a little odd question, but hear me out.
Every now and then the teams release cars with a few years on them to sell and they get out on the market with engine and all.
But sometimes they also sell the shell cars; the ones which are mainly just for show, without an actual engine inside.
I've always found the Lotus F1 cars to be the most beautiful one's; and a empty car (but with liveries, wheel etc.) would look great on my garage wall.
What are the odds of Lotus selling me one? Who do I even get in touch with to ask?

How to buy non-engine Formula One cars from teams?

Erm, just how big is your garage anyway?

Obviously, otherwise presumably he wouldn't ask.

Obviously what? I'm asking how big his garage is if he can fit a full-sized F1 car on the wall. It's a legitimate question. It must be bigger than my entire house.

They are incredibly compact/tiny in real life when you stand right next to one! I borrowed a McLaren once from (well it doesn't matter where). Easy fit in the garage even width very wide tyres - worst thing was it had been a very hot day and it vented off fuel vapour all night. A few years ago they had one inside Scan Computers at Bolton - most people didn't seem to realise it was the real thing (IIRC it was Kubica's Intel Sauber).

The big teams often make cars which are dedicated show cars, with very few "real" pieces, but the good ones are visually indistinguishable from a proper car. About 15 years ago, due to a sponsor comitment, I had to give a talk about Finite Element modelling in Birmingham UK, and as part of the presentation a show car was due to be at the venue. I had checked with the hotel that the doors to the room were of sufficient width, with ramps etc, to admit the car so I was sure there would be no problems. I arrived, already somewhat nervous about my presentation, to find the rooms had been switched and that the only place the car could be displayed was in a room with only a standard door as access. I probably freaked out at this point. The two ex Royal Marines sent to deliver the car were more calm than I was and suggested I get on with practicing my presentation, while they "Sorted it out" As I set up my projector etc I watched in amazement as they proceeded to take the wheels off the car with a hand wrench, then the two of them stood the car on its side and carried it through the door before reassembling it inside the room; what appeared to be a full size complete champ car (1550 lbs if memory serves) was in fact a single skin tub, a tube frame for the engine, and a empty gearcase, all clad in lightweight bodywork, which two (Admittedly pretty tough) guys could easily carry!

A genuine ex race used Lotus is for sure not the cheapest way to decorate your garage wall.
I´m sure Marussia will happily sell you one of their abandoned race chassis for a fraction of the cost of a Lotus.

Not that big.
Here are some examples of F1-cars mounted on walls.

Hehe, for sure.
Not that fond of the look if theirs though. I've always liked Lotus's gold on black.

I recently instructed a HPDE at CoTA in Austin. In one garage was a mid 90s F1 Lotus owned by a driver who did NOT "race" it but only did track days. However, there was a "curent" (2014) Williams of Filipe Massa. That car was MUCH "longer" than I had expected, but also much narrower than I had expected. Yes, it would have easily fit into my garage.
