As part of my research into TVR Racing I'm looking for programmes / entry lists for Goodwood in the period 59-62.

In particular in looking for the 41st Members Meeting 1960? and Fordwater 1961. Does anyone know if there is a 'Goodwood Archive' or does anyone have entry lists or copies of the programmes. I know Keith Aitchison's Grantura Mk2a ran in the TT in 1961.James Boothby and Mary Wheeler probably ran at the Members Meeting in 1960 but there were two other cars I'd like to indentify.

Thank you for your help.

Boothby, Wheeler, Avril Scott-moncrieff and J C Thurner are all listed in the programme for 41st Members Meeting.  Boothby is listed in the 1961 Fordwater Trophy.  John Woolfe is a reserve but started.

I have a fairly comprehensive Goodwood archive and will see if I can find anything else of interest.

Thank you very much for your help. - I have seen a photo of the start of the Members meeting. Do you have entry numbers / engine capacities it would help to identify the individual cars. I think they are 94 Boothby, 95 Wheeler, 86 and ?. I'm particularly trying to trace John Thurner's car which I think may be a factory entrant (Layton Sports cars) often running with electron wheels and in 1961 a 1,588 cc MG engine. Autosport reported this race as being the first with a good representation of TVR's.

On the Racebears.com website there is good photo of Boothy (with handlebar moustache- number 87 a I'm trying to find out if this is the 1961 Fordwater. The identification of John Woolfe's car may be more difficult as he may have run one of 2 cars AUD100 or 1226 RO, both started with Climax engines but later in 61/62 converted to MGA. I think it was entered as 116. Do you know if it ran.

Thank you

James Boothby is presumably Fred Boothby's father and Fred currently races an MG with the VSCC.

You should be able to get in touch with him via the VSCC.

Peter - Yes I understand Fred is James Boothby's son. I'll try and catch up with him at VSCC meeting.

275 - GTB - thank you for the suggestion - I've run through Pooks' collection on eBay but not found the programmes I require. I wondered that as the revival and the member meeting invites are based on this period if there is a good record / database of all the cars that competed.

A comprehensive race record of all races at Goodwood has been produced by the Formula One Register it is entitled 'A Record of Motor Racing at Goodwood' Volume 1. 1948-59, Volume 2. 1959-1966. Supplied as two volume set, slipcased. Comprehensive covers all races, including Members Meetings, gives events, entrants, race no, car type (often with chassis number or registralion, capacity, grid position, results.

Try website 'Formula One Register' quite expensive.but will have results.

41st Members Meeting.

Confirm No 86 JC Thurner, No 94 James Boothby, No 95 Mary Wheeler all in TVR Grantura.

Thurner, number 86, car green 1,489cc

Scott-Moncrieff number 89, car beige, 1,098cc

Fordwater Trophy 3/4/61

Boothby, number 111, car black, 1,216cc, entrant St James Autos (B'ton) Ltd

Boothby drove TVR-Climax, black, 1,216cc

I have a good photograph of Wheeler's car at the 44th Member's Meeting.  It is registration number 1223CD, also one of her in in the Whit Monday Meeting (22/5/61), same registration number.

Roger,

Thank you very much for your help -

There are a few photos in Filby's TVR Early Years book - 41st MM Mary Wheeler Mk1 95, Boothby Blue car 94.

Also a photo of 2485 CD Boothby's Black car? in a race with a Jaguar Mk1 and Ford Prefect. I don't think I've seen the Whit Monday meeting photo of Mary Wheeler.

Racebears also have a number of photos of Tommy Entwistle and others one no. 53 registered TOO 2, Boothby in the black MK 2 but with race number 87 and a Mk3 ? With steel wheels no 14 and a light coloured car no43. So quite a few to identify.

I've looked at the website for Robert Barker's book - but at £200 - I may have to ask for favours!

There is a photo of the 41st members meeting grid in Filby's book. Thurner Mk2 86 appears to be on the front row with a white TR2 (pole?) and Austin Healey, second row TR2 56, 95 Wheeler, 92 Riley Brooklands, 88 Elva Courier, 3rd row Moncrieff Mk1 Healey 100 43, 67 AH Sprite, 42 Healey 100, Healey 100 49. 4th Row 94 Boothby light coloured blue next to Elite or Elva.

There is also a paddock scene with Moncreiff's Coffee Bean, an Elite and possibly Boothby's light blue Mk1.

Do you have the date for the 41st MM - March 1960?

Rob

MM41 was 25th June 1960.  If you PM an email address I'll send you the pictures I have.  They're not the ones you describe.

The MM41 race was a 5 lap handicap so the cars are lined up according to handicap, not practice times.  The handicaps differ between the programme and Robert's book (but the programme says that the Club reserves the right to re-handicap any car).  Mike Salmon's D-Type was on scratch but he non-started, so effective scratch was Peter Sargent's D-Type at 5 seconds.  Salmon's non-starting may be the cause of some of the handicap differences.

Turner was on 1min 15 (relative to Salmon, I think), the TR2 you mention is probably McGuane (described as grey in the programme).  The Austin-Healey is probably Wylie who won the race (a red 3000, number 45, reg 5LPB).

The second row in your picture would be the starters on 1min 10:  Gay's TR2, red, Wheeler, number 92 is an Aston-Martin, not Riley (J6/707/U  EML129), 88 Elva is Tomei (he finished second).

Third row would be the 1min 05 starters.  Number 43 is Snow's Austin-Healey.  67 Sprite is George Naylor, 42 Healey is Jed Noble, 49 Healey is Derek Mackay,

Fourth row is 55secs according to the programme, 1min in Robert's book.  Boothby probably next to Maurice Baring's Elite (943KPP, coloured red)

Thanks Rob
