This is about the opening of Fernando's museum and karting track.

 

I hope is not geoblocked, so far only in Spanish but Bullier and other english speaking people from F1 is there, they may speak some english.

The track looks really fun, and the collection at the museum very impressive. He has all five of his Ferraris there! The collection of cars must be worth quite a fortune.

Wish I can visit someday.

I thought museums and statues were for those who had already passed away.

 

 

Is not only a museum, is a karting track too, starting this july they will be teaching kids that apply to the campus about karting. This is a tremendous effort from Fernando and Asturias to help kids in Spain. When Fernando started as a kid there was no place in Asturias to learn or to practice, now there is. He also want the track to be used in international championships, the track is already approved by FIA and it looks like is on his way to host some event next year.

I vividly remember being at the Nürburgring karting track after visiting the museum there around 2000 or so; such things can make great impressions on young kids and teenagers.

 

Well done to Alonso for bringing such an interesting collection and combination of activities to the region.

In case anyone cares, I uploaded a program from the Asturian local TV almost fully dedicated to cover the museum and the track, there is some English talk (with Bullier) but is mostly in Spanish. I guess not many people will go there, so is a decent chance to see how it looks from inside.

There's a great collection of F1 cars there - even an old McLaren from the looks of it (I got the impression Alonso's dad (?) painted his kart to look like Senna's McLaren, but that might be some overly creative interpretation of Spanish on my part ).

 

Maybe I missed it, but did Alonso manage to get one of the Minardi cars he drove in 2001 there? One of the visitors mentioned it but I didn't see it on the video. It seems he collected almost everything else; even the dreadful looking ING Renaults!

Is Senna's car, McLaren let him have it for sometime. I believe he owns all the cars he drove, 100% sure all the F1 cars, and only the 2005 was a present from Briatore, the rest he has to buy them with his own money!.

The replica is the kart (made by his father), the other one is a loan from McLaren, I don't think he said anything about this car being a replica.

I think that there is no doubt this car is the real thing. Very nice of McLaren to lend it, Alonso must be delighted - and grateful.
