Indy went nascar yesterday with a plate type race, set up finish, and questionable pit penalty, now nascar reverses roles on the road course today.
Zero surprise dinger and Kurt on front row. Also Gordon and Stewart sightings in top 7.

Larson 3rd. Who said that oval racers can't adapt to road courses?

Just got home. Heard it's pouring down at Watkins Glen and that a certain Piquet is champion.

Nascar going righturn? Count me in. Go AJ.

I think that was before, or maybe I'm just looking at it through the eyes of what was a really young kid back in the late 90's. It feels like it's "easier" to do well on road courses these days.

Then why is the field so strung out then? The lap time spread is about 3 seconds from front to back.

Meanwhile, Harvick\Truex\Earnhardt start to move forward as tyres wear, they have less drop-off than the others.

Menard, Hamlin pit in the 3-stop window. Johnson\Kahne making up a lot of ground as well.

I think the teams in general take road courses more seriously than in the past, especially since both races take place in the summer leading up to the chase. Didn't Dale Jarrett run an 8-10 year old chassis at RCs as recently as the 2000s? Back then one driver like Gordon, Martin, Wallace or Stewart would dominate many races at a time. Now it's more open especially at Sonoma.

McMurray dropping like a rock. Not a good day for him considering he's had multiple pole positions here.

Allmendinger and Kurt have caught up with Kyle now.

Edit: Kurt through to the lead. Jimmie Johnson closing in on the top 3.

1 41 Kurt Busch 1:16.704
2 47 AJ Allmendinger 1:17.412
3 48 Jimmie Johnson 1:17.500

That's some impressive pace (times on lap 37).

Hendrick cars seem to be saving their tyres quite well. Kahne, Jr and Johnson all moving up late in a run.

Risky move from Logano to pass Allgaier there.

About 35-40 laps judging by the #51's fuel mileage.

Adventurous day for Regan. Looks like a long caution if not red flagged, likely benefits Johnson and top 4?

Stewart (6th), Biffle (8th) and Patrick (10th) 2-stopping as well, far as I recall.

Edwards pretty much accepted blame. I see why he didn't want to lift, he thought he could get the inside for the hairpin with just some paint-swapping.

They wouldn't red-flag this one. They'd take it to lap 110 under yellow. Jimmie needs them laps.

Doesn't want a GWC though. He could easily save 1 lap's worth of fuel.
