RIP. There was a feature on the Ligier-Onroak collaboration in this week's Autosport which stated that Guy still went into the factory every day.

RIP. One of F1's "big beasts".
Like I'm guessing a fair few members on here, was really turned onto the sport after watching the Gauloises car win in the damp at Monaco in 1996.

While I'd heard the name in the first few races I watched as a kid I'll always remember the weekend of the 1993 French GP. I was away camping or something on the Saturday so missed qualifying, when my dad came to pick me up, naturally the first thing I asked was the qualifying results.
Me: "Prost's on pole I guess?"
Dad: "No Damon Hill is"
Me: " 
Prost's 2nd though right?"
Dad: "Yep"
Me: "Who's third, Senna or Schumacher?"
Dad: "Neither".
Me: "Erm....Alesi? Berger?"
Dad: "No Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell are 3rd and 4th, in Ligiers or something like that"
Me: 
Always had a soft spot for the team after that even after they changed drivers in subsequent years. I know Guy had sold the team by that point but they were a great team to have on the grid down the years. RIP.

That was a short era where the teams were able to test on one circuit in the calendar before the race. Magny-Cours was a natural choice for Ligier and the results are clear example of the advantage. As top teams of that era were mainly British, they didn't have such advantage to each other as much in Silverstone.
