Super display of cars connected with Bruce, with much detail knowledge from the Motors TV commentator.

However, I was dismayed to see that he called the 1967 B.R.M powered F.1 car a Formula 5000 car.

Oh dear......

Yes, the 12 trumpets looked great, didn't they?

My disappointment, though I only came in part-way through, was that there wasn't a close-up of the Indy-Ford powered car.

It is great to know, however, that it still exists and runs.

True, Ray, just a glimpse or two.

Same commentator...... "Scarabs never went this well when I first saw them here at Goodwood."

Without checking, my instincts tell me that he never saw a Scarab at Goodwood in period, or did he?

Same guy seemed not to know that the white and red 250.F is painted thus because it was that colour when Andre Testut tried to qualify it at Monaco. Or at least, if not that car then it is liveried to represent it.

I know, I'm an old anorak......

Chuck Daigh drove a Scarab in the Intercontinental Formula Lavant Cup at Goodwood on 3rd April 1961. It qualified some nine seconds off pole, and finished eighth, a lap down, so I think the commentator's comments might have been justified.

Many thanks to Roger Lund, who has just forwarded me this photo which shows that the Scarab was going quite well in the early stages of the race, holding third or fourth place ahead of the BRMs of Brooks and Hill and the Coopers of Surtees and eventual winner Moss who had made a bad start:

Edit: the photo turns out to be part of the George Phillips Photograph Collection held by the Revs Institute Archive, so I've replaced the photo with the relevant link.

Your previous comments on this were noted and acted upon, Barry! At least by the guys in the box on Friday:

I was surprised to see a photo of the Lycoming Special in the Revival thread. Bruce McLaren drove the car only once, finishing 4th in the 1960 Lady Wigram Trophy despite not having sat in it before the start. Was the Lycoming competing at Goodwood or did it only appear in the McLaren display?

Only in the display.

Was there an M8D in the display, or was that felt unfitting?

I could see how a 8D might be a little tasteless, but  no 8s at all, not even an early one?

A McLaren display without an M8 is rather like a Battle of Britain display without Spitfires or Hurricanes. Was no-one prepared to supply one?

I think you're being insensitive, as any M8 would be associated with his death particularly at Goodwood. It would have given commentators a difficult thing to explain & discuss.

More significantly there was no M7A to represent either the first F1 or GP win.

Off topic but I was quite disappointed by the quality of the commentating. Was I the only one?

Agreed on Motors TV commentary - "car 27 is coming up to overtake 33" is not what we expect!

You may receive more responses if you post your comment on the "Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival 2015" thread

It's not often that I find myself shouting at the tele but I hardly stopped while watching the Motor TV transmission.

However, it was worth it for the excellent coverage.

The commentary team did, in fact, describe it as liveried in the Monegasque colours of Andre Testut, and  Chris Drewett referred to the discussion on TNF last year taking them to task about it

PS I see that you watched it on Motors TV, Barry, where you were deprived of the excellent Pye/Jones/Hope-Frost commentary team. Should have watched it on the live feed
