I watched the OP video the other day. You can't take your eyes off it!

What struck me was - How on earth do you keep on top of timing and scoring??

That's seriously impressive

Someone totally cheats and takes a short cut at at ~1:45 though :p

There have been figure of 8 races for donkeys years. I have seen van figure of 8, car and caravan figure of 8.

Ramp rollovers, car and caravan ramp rollovers, car into caravan ramp rollovers!

If you spent as much time as I do watching short oval rcing, none of this is really that insane.

The most insane think I did see was a guy who ramp rolled a F1 stock car, a banger is fair enough, lots of crumple and metal to take the fall, but a steel stock car with no give!  Insanity!

LOL. Wtf is this. Any rules too, who has the "right" to cross first?  :p  Some patiently wait to let others pass, others take the risk and go straight through the traffic.

It says 3-hour enduro.  They do this for 3 HOURS?     That has to be absolutely draining.

That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen. It seems to be for fans below the lowest common denominator who lack the attention span for real motosport and only want to get a thrill by seeing crashes or near-crashes every few seconds.

This isn't motorsport, it's a sideshow.

Right, cause a 3 hour event is for people lacking attention span.  Tell us then, what is "real motorsport"?

Ah yes, backwards racing.

Ruined by money, as always.

At first, they all drove DAFs which - thanks to their true CVT - go as fast backwards as they go forwards. Which was about 60 kilometers per weekend. Then people started turning up with actual cars. Then people started putting the gear shift lever in the backseat of those real cars. And before you knew it, that was the end of it.

There really are some snobs and snobbish attitudes on here at times.

If you want to just spend every waking hour watching reruns of :Le MAns or finding out chasis numbers on some random Elva fine.

But there are those of us that go to motorsport events to be netertained aswell as admore talent and machinery.

Look at the crowds?  This is juts a bit of fun.

Get a grip and grow up you dreary lot!

Ha ha that backwards racing segment is funny, looks like great fun, I want to see someone drive an F1 car round a circuit in reverse now.

The caravan racing is just carnage, so much debris on the track. It is the reason Pirelli insisted it be banned as an F1 support series and why we don't see them on GP weekends.  No, really.

Now I remember why it's so rare to see DAF cars anymore. Few survuved that era. And for sure we stayed ho,me to watch those races. I would again if it were broadcast this way today.

BTW, is seems like cars have more grip in reverse. A drive by wire rear wheel steered car would be interesting. I am acually curious about a car with a central hinge and stiff axles, just diffs. Adjust axle placements relative to the hinge to tweak the balance if at al needed.

edit:

johnmhinds, I raise your bus figure 8 race with a trailer figure 8 race. hosted by.... "lugg nutz"

Christ almighty, how on earth do they manage to keep it "clean"? Some guys are visibly cautious, but most are the equivalent of kamikaze racing drivers.

I wonder what would happen if someone put Maldonado in one of those cars...

Pff, that's nothing. I have ideas for insane racing:

-Singapore without lights

-F1 with reverse tracks

-Race where half of the drivers do reverse track

-F1 Taxi racing, where other driver is riding à la Webber on Alonso's car

-Le Mans 24 Heures Moto at the same time as WEC Le Mans 24 hours

-F1 on WRC stages

-WRC on Powerboat "tracks"

-Powerboats in Red Bull Air race

Yet every single one of the drivers have better spatial awareness than half the F1 grid.

In many so-called third world countries this is a standard intersection situation...

Holy ****! I nearly shat my pants watching this!

20 or so years ago, I had a game called "Destruction Derby", that featured similar tracks. And I thought "such a shame that this only works in computer games...."

Next time somebody asks what F1 needs, just post a link to that video.

Of course they are, but that is point of banger racing or demo derby racing.

These cars are designed and built to crash into each other.

Some people like it, some people dont.

But they are entertainers

Now I personally didn't enjoy watching the first clip, nor the Bus clip either, but I did like the Truck + Trailer figure 8 clip. Those guys clearly went into the race knowing that their truck and trailer is going to get pretty wrecked and they didn't seem to be doing speeds where injury was likely. To me the initial clip just seemed dangerous for the sake of it.

I think we need to have a discussion about the need for overpasses for Figure 8 racing tracks.  This is very dangerous.

Of ourse it is dangerous for the sake of it? Whats your point? To be fair figure of 8 racing in the U S is a little differenet to over here.

No non contact formulas ever race them in the UK, here it is always full contact bangers, never stock cars. So the emphasis is on hits, contact and trying to avoid each other.
