What a game!

I just got it last week and , after a bit of practice , it's really improved the timing of my braking and accelerating.
Not normally a fan of rally games I've found that this one 'seems' realistic (wether it is or not I can't say but it feels good).
My only gripe is that Nicky Grist sometimes waits until I'm right on top of a slow corner before warning me about it.

What does everyone else think?

p.s. Are there any patches available?

i got it a while back and i really got into it, i loved the little stages you got once finishing the actual rally stage ...

it was a bit hard to get used to, but after playing it for a while it got much better. i hated the snow stages, car just went everywhere

regarding patches, im sure there is some out there, i dont have the game anymore

Try this thread: http://www.atlasf1.c...&threadid=13459

Since then I've learned have to drive the Focus. It's fast on the slower non-tarmac rallies (Greece, Australia, UK) but not as fast as the Subaru and the Lancer overall. For my driving style I think the Seat is the fastest car in the game (of the WRCs, the Puma is way faster), at least once you learn the stage and drive without sliding too much.

Nicky is usually way too late with the pace-notes. It's usually possible to make the turn, but getting a good or even decent line and braking is down to learning the stages. Not too difficult considering their modest length.

Learning a track well enough to drive like a circuit, practicing braking, lines, slides and shortcuts will earn you 10-25 seconds PER stage. All my times ( http://www.abo.fi/~trikberg/cmr2/ ) are driven in rally- or championshipmode, except for the first stage of a few rallies (marked with 1*). I think I could improve about 5 sec per stage in championshipmode if I train a little more (gpl taking most of the track-time)

Has anyone else had any problems with the arcade mode?

Cars hitting me side on act as you would expect, but if they hit me at the back , or I hit them at the back, both cars leap and spin 200ft in the air. The patch on the codemasters web site makes no mention of a fix for this.

It makes playing the arcade version impossible
:(

No problems here. Are you using the fireball (?) cheat? It allows you to shoot fireballs by pushing the handbrake button that will send the cars flying all over the place. Also used by the CPU. Never had any problems winning with it on however. Or could there possibly be some kind of 'bumper car' mode?

Besides, the arcade modes are way too easy. Once you learn the tracks, which takes a race or two, it's a walk in the park. It requires quite a different driving style than driving rallies. More like circuit racing, less slides and later braking.

snow is such class, at first you hate it .. but after spending some time on it you get used to it. you really have to change your driving style, as its so slippery. it took me some time, but i finally won the stage, no carsetups ... just used the focas, class car .. has some speed and it handles good to.

just keep on practising dude

Fun and pretty better than its ancestor.
I have still one problem.
During Championship season while special stages (those head to head races) my manual gears don't work correctly. Shame, gearbox feels like lottery when shifting gears. Does any patch fix that?

Peter:
Smooth is the keyword on snow. Brake reasonably early. If the inside bank is very small or far from the driving line use the softer snow on the inside to get the car turned. Once you clear the apex use a little opposite lock (how much depends on your style, I hardly slide the car at all so I usually only straighten up the steering) and try to get the car under control asap. Then floor the throttle. It will feel strange at first but once you get it right the car will absolutly fly out of the corners.
This may or may not work with your style of driving. A friend of mine just throws out the rear and powerslides through the corner. He is usually slightly faster in midcorner but I can often go a little faster down the straights by getting a better exit.
Practice. A lot. Do some test driving. Try taking corners in different ways. Don't be afraid to lose time by overshooting a corner or spinning.

Kanisteri:
I haven't found a patch to fix it. I'm generally quite agressive with the gears, going quite low in corners to find that extra bit of torque on high revs, so I lose a lot of time when the gears don't work properly. It's possible to do somewhat reasonable laps by holding the gear button down until the gear changes, but it's really annoying if it's a close fight and you just can't take a corner cleanly because you're a couple of gears too high.
