Can the resident experts here kindly explain how one can attribute a performance deficit to either chassis, aero or power unit. What are the exact pointers? This is not another thread about Mclaren Honda.

Chassis deficit is likely to be seen in low speed corners, as you'll be looking to how the car outs the power down and how it works the tyres with next to no aero load.

Aero will be seen in the medium to high speed corners. You can also separate whether someone is running high or low drag based on the top speeds.

Power unit is difficult as you basically gain everywhere. Better driveability allows better low speed performance. Better power allows you to run higher levels of aero as you can accept the higher drag penalty.

Mechanical grip = fast in slow corners, street circuits.

Aero grip = fast in fast corners, open race tracks.

Car faster in wet races than dry races = engine down on power.

Some common pointers but set up preferences can change this picture considerably.
