I recently purchased NASCAR 2000 and I think it is a definite improvement over NASCAR 99. For one the cars sound closer to the real thing which was the major weakness of NASCAR 99 where the cars sounded sick. Also the game feel is better and I noticed this racing on the Atlanta track.

You can race against Richard Petty or race as Richard Petty in one of his vintage STP cars. The game also has Tony Stewart's Home Depot car, Dale Earnhardt Jr's #8 car and even Adam Petty's Spree car (which is strange because he hasn't raced at the Cup level yet). I haven't played it enough to find the surprises but I think you can unlock seven legend drivers.

It also has five pretty good fantasy road course races. One which is completely at night (which seems to mimic Suzuka's big ferris wheel) and another which starts in daylight and ends at night. There is a road course track that has "Monza-like" banking.

Overall, this is the best NASCAR game I have seen but the original NASCAR Racing for Sony Playstation is still the most realistic when it comes to setup capabilities and strategies. NASCAR 2000 has very novice-like rudimentary setup capabilities which is its only major downfall.

Joe-Fan,

I bought this on your recommendation and IT IS GREAT!! And I'm not even a NASCAR fan! I love the sound of the engine and the agressiveness of the other drivers. The car dynamics seem pretty good and one of my favourite features is the way you can check back on your season and see how you did.

The tracks are good, I really liked the extra fast Sears (?) roadcourse and racing at Indy but where is Daytona?

Okay, now things I don't like. Not much incentive to win, you only get 5 points less than the winner if you come 2nd! Ho humm...

Also when you crash you just flip over and that's it. No big crashes or pile ups so far. Hardly any yellow flags either. I've seen one yellow in 9 races!

Apart from that I like it, it has actually made me want to take a look at real NASCAR a bit more.

Swerve, Daytona International Speedway has never been in any NASCAR licensed Playstation games for some reason. I guess NASCAR(ISC) is asking too much for the license to use Daytona in these type games. I am not sure if Daytona is used in any PC games either but they finally added Indianapolis in NASCAR 99 which was nice.

I like the fantasy tracks in this game. I bought a book for NASCAR 2000 that had codes to unlock the legend drivers but it doesn't work. I found that it does work for NASCAR 99. If you need it setup secrets for any track let me know.

Overall, this is a great game to simulate NASCAR but the only thing I don't like is that the car setup capabilities are too user friendly and orientated for the novice. I like the original NASCAR Racing for Sony Playstation for realistic car setup capabilities.

Is it true that the name 'Daytona' is licensed to Sega?
