Even Alonso came back in McLaren. If he can, anybody could if there is mutual desire. :)

Mclaren would become a joke team if Pat Fry or Tombazis comes back.

What about Ross Brawn, (Ok I'm dreaming but Are we sure he is fishing :rotfl:, Maybe that's why Ron didn't come to the gp's, He was searching for him.)

There was a lot of Tombazis in the MP4-20... I wouldn't be so quick to write him off. Fry, I agree, no thank you.

Fry was allied with Fernando to some degree wasn't he?

Really hope McLaren nail the car this year. It was impossible to follow the '30 thread as there were so many posts!

I wonder if they will be able to keep the packaging so small if they need to increase the size of the compressor and turbo so much. More power also means much more cooling. More cooling means bigger radiators.

There's a reason why the current Merc is bigger than the W05 (other than the equal exhausts and inlet trumpet).

I don't know if that was the case at the beginning, but at the end they didn't have much relationship.

I think the 30's radiators were designed to have more power but due to reliability it was never achieved

To be honest after all the pain this year, being average next year will hurt more.

I need that winning feeling again, anything less will be disappointing regardless of how much better it will be compared to 2015.

I'd be happy with a 1997-kind of season. A fast but unreliable car (with a couple of wins and podiums) would be a good thing to see. It would also give hope for the seasons to come.

It's hopelessly optimistic to expect McLaren-Honda to reach in two seasons the level McLaren-Mercedes did in three - especially given just how disastrously they've started. They've got to score two podiums just to attain a 1995-type season. Even the McLaren-Peugeot scored eight podium finishes.

So it's all the fault of the guy(s) who aren't there anymore. Current staff is obviously brilliant. What a surprise, same as over at Ferrari. :stoned:

Unless both Ferrari and Mercedes screw up pretty badly with development, reliability or tactics I think the most we can realistically hope for in the constructor championship is 3rd. Maybe we can hope for some lucky wins or some pure pace wins at a few circuits depending on the car's strengths vs the competition, but even that might be too much.

Interview with Jenson:

http://www.topgear.c...l-were-just-not

TG: We’re hearing next year’s McLaren-Honda might be up to two seconds per lap faster than the ’15 car?

JB: I think that’s possible. There are certain things that bring a massive amount of lap time that are sorted for next year already, stuff you can’t simply bolt on during the season. It’s looking very positive.

Interview with Fernando:

http://www.topgear.c...er-more-freedom

TG: Clearly your thoughts are now firmly focused on 2016. Jenson told us earlier that an improvement of up to two seconds per lap was feasible.

FA: I agree with that. Maybe even more than that.

TG: Really?

FA: Yes. But everyone will improve between half a second and a second. That’s the normal step top teams can do over the winter. For us being two seconds off the pace, we need to do much more than that, and the power unit will be the main thing to unlock this potential. Radical changes in the power unit in terms of design and philosophy, we know the deficit on the straights. All the solutions we have identified will bring a big improvement in lap time.

2 seconds would put us in front of Ferrari, and behind Mercedes. If Everyone else moves forward a second, we would be mid pack.

So really we need a minimum of 2 seconds over the rest of them.

2.5 sec according to ALO at the end of the season.

2 sec now in december.

1.5 sec before tests.

1 sec in reality?

No, F1 needs a competitive McLaren.

If this trend continues then

November: 2.5
December: 2
January: 1.5r
February: 1.0
March: 0.5

;)

Just joking.

I expect that they will halve the gap. So dowm from 2.5 s to somewhat around 1 s which would take them into the fight for the best of the rest against the likes of Williams and RBR. I expect them to finish in the top 5, the best I could imagine is P3. Ferrari managed to reduce the gap from 1.2 s down to 0.6 s in one winter with less potential to improve. So everything less than 1 s improvement would be surprising.

Personally I think a genuinely realistic expectation for McLaren is to give a good competition to the likes of Force India and Toro Rosso in midpack and finish in top 6 in constructors championship. But when have fans been modest with their wishes? :D

Regardless of what is the case with delivering, I can't remember the last time McLaren underpromised. Even Ferrari managed to underpromise last year by saying that they might delay the new car.

Perhaps 2007 is the last year in which McLaren genuinely performed better than many expected before the season?
