The discussion over the new Manor Racing logo got me thinking, what are some of the most iconic F1 logos (and no doubt some of the most forgettable) of all time?

 

I hope this thread can transcend team loyalties, and it's not specifically about one logo being better than another. It doesn't always have to be about longevity in the sport, don't forget some short lived entrants still had great team identities. (And this is not solely connected with their liveries or team success.)

 

A few early (obvious) suggestions....

 

Ferrari (the prancing horse shield without current the red and white square)

McLaren's 'stylised kiwi'

Mindardi's traditional logo (the lion and il Tricolore)

I've always like the simplicity of McLaren early 90's logo, although the font could be improved a little.

Brabham, definetly. then Sauber's wich is the best from the current crop.

It's created to make you think Marlboro, not Ferrari, that's why it's so awful.

 

 

After the bar code above was truly banned (you can see the method behind that) they went as close as they possibly could to representing the Marlboro branding. 

 

I guarantee you Marlboro work shopped that new Ferrari logo until they got their required % of people saying "It kinda reminds me of Marlboro" especially when placed on overalls and the car.

 

It definitely isn't about being a fancy Scuderia Ferrari logo.

David Brabham has said he now owns the Brabham "Hissing Sid" logo, hopefully he'll release some merch using it.

We seem to have gone from "best F1 team logos" to "any old team logo you can find".  BAR's for example isn't even a logo, it is just the Lucky Strike colours in a rectangle.  About as inspired as an Adele album. 

 

That wasn't Coloni's F1 logo either.

Nobody here has so far mentioned the fantastic Martini Racing logos - be they Tecno, Brabham, Lotus or Williams (or for that matter Porsche, Lancia or Alfa Romeo outside F1).
