A lot to ask, I know, but I am having little luck presently hunting for entry lists, results or programmesa for the 1950 and 1951 Pike's Peak mountain climbs? Can anyone help?

Rogers Tops
Pikes Peak
COLORADO SPRINGS,
Colo.-(UP)- Al Rogers be-
came a five-time winner of
the Pikes Peak hillclimb race
on Monday, Sept. 3, when he
toured the winding road to
the summit of the better than
14,000-foot peak in 15 min-
utes, 39 and seven tenths sec-
onds.
Four in a Row
It was the fourth year in a row
that he has taken the title.
Johnny Mauro, Denver, placed
second in the race, recording a
time of 15:47.05.
Next finishers in order were:
Louis Unser, Colorado Springs, 16:6.85
Pete Woods, Long Beach, Calif, 16:11.55
Herb Bryers, Colorado Springs, 16:13.75
Shelby Hill, Calban, Colo, 16:29.95
Charley Bryant, Colorado Springs, 16.16.45
Bob Finney, Colorado Springs, 16:23.4
Mark Hillings, Burbank, Calif, 16:39.35
Jimmie Good, Colorado Springs, 16:47.3
Delmar Desch, 17:23.35
Hugh Thomas, Englewood, Colo, 17:40.85
Wayne Sankey, Delta, Colo, 17:52.6
Glenn Harrison, Colorado Springs, 17:56.15
Walt Moffat, San Francisco, 18:35.7
Jimmie Jackson, Desert Hot Springs, Calif, 18:37.2
Wayne England, Colorado Springs, 18:43.75
Rodger Barlow, Beverly Hills, Calif, 20:8.45
Note discrepancy with time of Shelby Hill, apparently out of sequence.

I haven't gone through the whole thread, but there might be something here or somewhere on the same board:

Doug:
The 1992 book *The Pikes Peak Race* by Stanley DeGeer (ISBN 096262781X) has 1916-1990 race entries and results. Send you email address to me at fdb912@gmail.com, and I'll scan the four pages for you.

Got what you need, Doug? I have a little bit more than what was posted so far, although it's not terribly much more - retirements, car names, numbers, engine makes and some qualifying results and car histories. Results often vary according to source.

More or less thank you Michael. Pretty much solved the immediate problem...thanks all, in fact...

except for all the 1000's of missing photos it is a real shame that this good information is tainted by this.

This may not be the spot to ask this question, and if it isn't I apologize, but is there any "market" for vintage Pikes Peak programs. I ended up with several in a lot of IndyCar programs I bought and I don't know if there's any kind of market for them or not.

Great to come across this thread.
Frank, any chance you could advise me any details about Ray Shadbolt who entered a Mercury powered Alta in the 1950 and 1951 events.
Did he start and complete each event?
thanks - Michael

His name was Roy Shadbolt. According to the links in post #2, he started and completed the 1950 event, but did neither in 1951. More info here:

Michael:
The Pikes Peak Race book shows that Ray Shadbolt, Vancouver, B.C., qualified 8th (7:57.3) in an unidentified car in 1950, finishing 23rd (19:57.6). For 1951, it shows him in an Alfa Special (not Alta), qualifying 9th, no finish position or times recorded.

Frank, I think the "Afla" is a typo as I have an article on his preparations for the 1951 race with the Alta Mercury. Please read the following link:-

Yes, the name's Roy Shadbolt, he was the brother of renowned Canadian artist Jack Shadbolt. And "Alfa" is a wide-spread an often copied typo, to which I have fallen victim in the past, too, I'm not ashamed to admit. The Alta initially ran as a "Monarch Special", powered by a Mercury V8 - Monarch was the brand name used by Ford of Canada for the Mercury. As far as I can determine, he did not appear in 1951.

Reinhard, do you have a middle name for Roy Shadbolt? I've seen both Roy S. and Roy A. Shadbolt. His brother was Jack Leonard Shadbolt.

Roy Edward Shadbolt, according to the 1921 Census of Canada. DoB March 2nd 1914, Victoria BC. Died Dec 31st 1968, University Heights, BC.

Edward.
Roy Edward Shadbolt, b. 02 March 1914 Victoria, British Columbia, d. in December 1969 (age 55)
I have seen 31 December 1968 as DOD which does not look trustworthy to me because it seems year (1969) and age (55) are fixed.
EDIT: Richard beat me by a whisker.
EDIT # 2: Since the death registration number starts with 1968 he obviously did not die in December 1969 but in December 1968 at the age of 54.

Michael:
Thanks for the clarification. The car is obviously not an Alfa.
