"That's one ugly car", said a magazine editor in the USA. I disagree.

Two more snaps from Darrell

Historic Formula Ford often means both cars and drivers are growing older, Growing up is optional.

DJ_PI_07_TNF.jpg

Nick Bennett #40 Van Diemen RF88 finds himself facing traffic with Richard Davison (Lex's son) in the #3 'Gulf' Van Diemen RF89 in the mix.

At this point Bennett is a split second off driving his rear wheel over Davison's nose.

I believe Nick Bennett is himself a second-generation driver; he's Laurie's son.

Very incestuous.

What year did Richard Carter win the Driver to Europe Series?

Can anyone advise which steed he used?

That sounds pretty right...

He'd previously raced the Lynx and the Hustler, but with Grace Bros. backing he put in a solid year in '76 in the F73.

Difficult times in FFord in Australia due to rule changes in the engine specs.

That pic of the Healy while not a great motorsport pic is a great  'mood' picture. The green grass, scrub and the blue ocean. Lovely!

The Group S pic is a good motorsport pic, especially the flaggy turning around watching.

I was going to make a comment on the previous pics re camber on the Bug and Medleys car. That pic shows it beautifully!

The Spridget, Vee and Morris special could not be a more diverse group of cars.

Somehow, I think that photographers would not make very good flaggies.  If an incident happened, would we end up with a camera or a yellow flag in our hand.

I've selected this photo of Darrell's because it shows Phillip Island at its best. A great drivers and spectators circuit with wonderful views when the weather is kind. (it can of course be horrid, often on the same day. Or even hour)

Those radiators on the March look so vulnerable.

Having replaced radiators regularly at race meetings because of stones how do they keep them intact? Mine were in a Sports Sedan with screening mesh in front of it and I still managed to get small holes. One meeting 2 radiators. my radiator bloke expected one every meeting but not two!

The 5000 clips are quite good. Blendline do a decent job, the commentator lacks a bit but tries.

Ah yes, my apologies...

But it's not 'Turn 1', it's 'South Curve'. When did the real names disappear?

I raced there several times late 90s and it was then always turn 1, followed by turn 2 then down to Honda, Siberia up the hill past tin shed to Lukey Heights, over the top to MG and then the sweeper back to the start. I suspect many others have different recollections.

Though Honda,  tin shed Lukey heights and MG are in most peoples memory.

Turns 1 and 2 are 'South Curve' and 'Southern Loop' respectively...

Siberia (and the Copse?) is the only other unsponsored name, but Lukey Heights and MG are kind of indelible.
