Been at the Long Beach Grand Prix and had a chat with both Robin Miller and Derek Daly about Haas. Neither are impressed at all, but I'd say their opinion was not colored by performance, but whether it's an American team or not. Miller said it isn't a US team at all and has no American drivers (Robin gets an eye roll on that, it's part of his schtick, same as indycar), but I also pointed out, neither was Penske when he ran F1, and USAF1 whatever that was went down in a ball of flames.

Daly said it was an Italian team and the only thing US was the funding.

Whatev, hope Haas does well tomorrow...

Don't forget to enter the IC fantasy league, autographs from both and many more, with race swag to this week's winners!

Haas are not hiding that they are an outsourced team and they are putting everything together. They are not a true formula one team in the old fashion mode rather they have chosen the route of a close collaboration with  a top team like Ferrari. They exploited the loopholes in the current regulations and accelerated the time period needed by making as much use of Ferrari know how. They have hit the ground running and for a new team they have done a great job so far.

The challenge for them is going to be designing yet another car under new regulations and mating it to power-unit at such an early phase of the team. As i have said earlier not too fussed about the ethical/moral angle. Next year is going to be their real test with the loopholes closed and we will get to know if their approach is successful or not? The important thing here to see is to understand what success means to Haas? They are not here to win championship or races cos under current f1 climate that is ruled out with the route they have chosen.  They are here to promote the brand and run a decently successful f1 team  which with the resources they have is possible.

Haas finishes out of the points... no threat to anyone... crickets from the sour grapes crowd.
