Hello all,
I've recently acquired a very original p&m z1000 that has been laid up in a couple of sheds for the last 30 years.I would like to trace its history and luckily have some interesting photos/paperwork that came with it.
Apparently it was built in the late 70's by Ford Bacon and Rod Taylor of Motivation motorcycles using a frame kit from P&M. It was raced by Ford Bacon in club level events but mostly by Paul Barret at National level including the Isle of Man in 1981 where it finished halfway down the field in the F1 / Superbike race. I believe it's 1st event was Cadwell park in 1979 and was also entered into the 1980 Classic and Formula 1 TT's.It was also raced at the 1983 Silverstone Grand Prix which was supposedly it's last event which I also believe was the race Barry Sheene had his serious accident.
There is some mention of a Kevin Wrettom having ridden it but it's a bit sketchy. There is also some reference to a track test at Brands Hatch by Superbike magazine.
Lastly, the livery it finished up in has Pocock motorcycles as a sponsor, circa July 1983,I have a photo of it being raced in what looks like endurance trim.
As I said,I do have interesting photos and I'm trying to figure out how to upload them.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Regards Peter

The last frame that I made was number 59 and I left P&M in February/March 1980, so the 1979 Cadwell outing can't be correct. The client mentioned on the frame list is indeed Motivation. I suggest you call Richard Peckett on 020 8847 1711 (got this from Google so hope it is correct) and he may remember something more about the bike and Motivation.
Have sent you a PM that may interest you.
