Don't know about the others

Pirelli says that @LewisHamilton has 1 new set of mediums, 3 new softs, 2 new supersofts, and 1 used supersofts. Should be enough!

I think it's clear that Mercedes had planned to get through Q2 with softs on both cars.

There goes my M-M-S strategy devised from my keyboard. Oh well.

Probably a SSSM strat then. He can try undercuts then.

Missed qualifying. What's happening to Lewis? Are they changing the ERS, or the whole PU? Can they repair the damaged parts?

Is he starting from the pit lane with new setup or from the grid?

The FIA didn't announced anything yet, but it looks like he is changing the MGU-H

Whole new PU.  Might as well.

But that would be penalty free anyway? As he is still in the allocation?

Not if you change it after qualifying

hasn't been released by Pirelly yet, you'll find it here then https://twitter.com/pirellisport

makes no sense to speculate who returned which sets of dry tires after FP3, so we are better off waiting for it I guess

Any word on if Pirelli reduce the tire pressures?

My trusted source for weather suggests that it will be a dry race, so perhaps there simply isn't a need.

Even if they still have PU allocation? And did Hamilton actually take part?

Yes and yes (he left the pits even more than once).

Due to parc ferme rules yes, I'm not sure on if he took part though actually.

This tyre pressure stuff is taken quite seriously...

"I think for the teams and the drivers for sure is not [good]. But maybe for the people to see a lot of overtaking, to see a lot of people struggling on tyres – yes," said Massa of the tyre pressures.

"But it is fake. It is not really how it needs to be.

"For sure, you will see a lot of overtaking in the race because of that. But not really a proper overtake: easy overtakes."

High pressures -> tires can't get in the "window" -> huge tire wear and lack of grip -> cheap DRS passes as some cars are completely helpless about it.

And this farce will continue till at least 2019.

Run down to turn one is a chance to pass several cars.  Pitlane = none at all.

I always think so. The chance of a collision is too high compared with the relative ease of passing the Manors etc in the first few laps.

Back in Abu Dhabi 2013, Kimi had the chance of starting the race from pit lane or back of grid.

He chose the back of grid. Was out of the race at the first corner with collision.

Could be a way to practice and sort his starts out.

I find this much better than looking at long trains, with drivers unable to overtake. It's not easy to establish the rules in such a way that everyone will be happy with easiness and frequency of overtakes.

It depends. If you don't need to make setup changes then it is the decision between gaining a lot time or to avoid the huge chance to be involved in a turn 1 collision.

Personally I would have taken the pitlane penalty. In that way he can fully chance the setup and Mercedes can inspect the whole car again and he wont have the risk to be pilled out in T1. At this point ot is important for him to finish.

Given the five place grid penalty he already knew he had, his car was probably more geared towards the race than it usually is anyway so they might not see many gains from a setup change.

I think the sensible option would be a pitlane start. There is no scenario in which that could be the wrong decision, but there are plenty for starting on the grid.

Hamilton's scope for relative success off the start is now very narrow. He needs to make a bunch of places to negate the time advantage he has conceded in forgoing a race setup.

Tbh somehow I hope that the race will be boring (at least in terms of Hamilton), because if the race will be a cracker thanks to Hamilton's start on the back of the grid and he finishes after some great battles on the podium, then I fear that the reversed grid discussion will start again....

You'd hope so wouldn't you. I'm sure the ones they have are far better than any taken slightly higher and behind the barrier.

The supersoft tires have massive drop off especially on full tank. The race most likely will be all action with pit stops starting from as early as lap five and majority of the teams will be three stopping in view of a green track with all the rain today.

Passing will be a breeze with two long straights, drs plus tire disparity and different strategies. Going hell for leather on to the run into first corner is simply unnecessary with plenty of overtaking opportunities.

A very long straight and a normal start-finish straight, in my book these are two long straights. Unless I'm missing something here   ;)

1x Medium straight
1x Super-long straight

I suppose on aggregate we have 2 long straights.

This is interesting. It seems Ferrari clearly thinks the optimal strategies announced by Pirelli are not optimal for them. So Ferrari is with the opinion that SS will do them better than soft during the race.

http://www.f1fanatic...mpaign=jealousy

EDIT: Furthermore I think it is now obvious Ferrari was planning - and still probably is - to run Vettel on SS - S - SS - SS strategy. Kimi is more of a question mark as I do not think he has that amount of fresh SS available for the race. I believe he will go with SS - S - S - SS strategy. What will Nico do is an open question. Pirelli indicated that S - S - S - SS would be among the fastest ones but I think he could go S - S - SS - SS as well providing with that Merc has the confidence on SuperSoft on a bit longer runs.

The Haas, which ran an aggressive tyre strategy so well in Bahrain, obviously has many Ferrari characteristics...

I am really eagerly waiting for what will Haas do this time. So far I have been most impressed with them and of course Grossjean doing the thing as well.
