Ramsgate Speed Trials, North London & Herts County A.C., Sunday 13 July 1952.

Can anybody shed further light on this car/driver?

Alan Andrews ran a ford dealership on the south cost. Alan Mann ran Ford Cortinas for Andrews Racing in 1963, before setting up Alan Mann Racing a year later.

Sorry can't help with the car.

Identifying the engine may  provide some sort of a clue.  4250cc is a large capacity.  The only British engine I can find that comes anywhere near that capacity is the Bentley at 4257cc.  Was the engine possibly American?

There is yet another photograph of this car at Boreham in the centre spread of Motor Sport, May 1951:

"UNUSUAL.-J.A. Andrews' rear-engined Ford V8-

powered Andrews photographed at Boreham."

(#25, Boreham Speed Trials, W.E.C.C., 1 April 1951.)

The Andrews Ford dealership was at Southwick, between Shoreham-by-Sea and Portslade, Sussex.

OT a bit, but if you enter a search for Alan Mann on the wonderful Revs photo archives, there is a good display of the Mann Marina Rolls being built in the workshops. There are lots of engine and chassis, body off, shots. Clear details are visible. Marvellous stuff, as ever on Revs.

Odd capacity for a Ford V8 - at least at that time. They did build a 260ci small-block V8, but it didn't see the light of day until the early 1960s. Used in the Shelby Cobra, the Fairlane, very early Mustangs and the Mercury Comet.

Maybe a slightly enlarged Mercury 255? That was a Ford V8 Flathead in all but name.

Why was the car called Marina? Was it built at Southwick in Sussex by the sea?

Because RR would not sanction the use of one of its V8 motor car engines and made threatening noises (I know because we had found a wrecked Silver Cloud) if anybody suggested using it in a race car Andrews Engineering sourced one from a marine application hence Marina
