Who would you have on your perfect F1 broadcasting team. Choose:

1-2 presenter(s)

At least 3 expert pundits

A pit reporter

A tech guy

A lead commentator

1-2 expert commentator(s)  (remember some motorsports have 3 commentators

A interviewer in the pen

And anyone else (journalists, weather people whatever)

Also say (if you want if some pundits do commentary for practice like Di Resta at the moment

I would have

Presenter-Rachel Brooks

Pundits-Brundle, Coulthard, Mike Gascoyne, Mark Priestly Webber (when not at WEC)

Pit reporter and tech guy- Ted krabitz

Lead commontator-Jack Nicholls

Expert commentator-Brundle

Interviewer-Lee Mckenzie

Also add journalists like Mark Hughes, Kevin Eason and maybe have a weather person in a studio

Have your say!!!

Presenters: Jake Humphrey & Natalie Pinkham (not at the same time)
Pundits: Mark Webber(Allan McNish when Webber is racing), David Coulthard, Eddie Jordan
Tech guy: Ted Kravitz (with his notebook)
Expert comm: Martin Brundle(obviously), but get Webber or Coulthard in for FP
Lead comm: So want to say Will Buxton but it think Jack Nicholls would work better with Brundle
Pit reporter: Will Buxton
Interviewer: Lee Mckenzie
Weather girl?: I wouldn't have one but if you insist I would say Lucy Verasamy
Don't want any journo's. Eddie Jordan will take care of the gossip.
Broadcast half hour before the start of race and and an hour after it finishes. No BS.

I'd certainly have me in one of the roles (probably pundit or expert commentator), and I'd build the team around that.

You've committed the first mistake - the one they all are making. The team you ask for is way too large.

Brundle and Couthard were good, really good!  okay, so their first 1-2 races was a little shaky but that is only to be expected, once they got a few races in, they were really good together and I think it is a huge huge shame we only got to enjoy them together for one season.

Brundle as a main commentator whilst that might not be his preferred role, was far FAR better than Croft, who just p*sses me off over and over with his banal natter and quite dumb comments.

I think Brundle and Edwards would be an interesting combination in the commentary box. Coulthard, EJ, and Webber as pundits, Jake Humphrey and Lee McKenzie as anchors, Suzi Perry and Ted Kravitz as pit lane reporters.

This is a rather English list. A shame; you can't beat the Japanese for enthusiasm.

Perhaps save a spot for Vettel in case he retires from racing. The way in which he narrated the events of the first lap of the Russian Grand Prix was great. "Oooooooh I'm out .... CRASH!!!". :p

On a more serious note, I don't see the need for such a huge team. Just get one person with some knowledge of the technical side of the sport (preferably not based on experience in the 1980s) and another to narrate the events of the race for the less experienced viewers. Perhaps throw in one person to hang around the paddock, but even that is rarely all that interesting. But the most important part: rotate them out. People who've watched F1 in the Netherlands in the last 20 years have basically had just two voices commentating.

I would have

Presenter Rachel Brooks

Do you have a temperature, are you sweating profusely, is the room spinning? I think you're delirious from a fever.

You just put the words 'perfect' 'presenter [lead anchor]' 'Rachel Brookes' in the same sentence.

Good call.

Presenter: Rachel Riley.

Pit lane: Lee McKenzie

Commentary: Brundle and DC in equal roles. Button to replace Brundle when he quits F1.

Technical: Scarbs.

Punditry and history of the sport features: Chandhok and Peter Windsor.

Occasional guest features by the likes of Webber.

I'd add some more money to the budget to pay EJ and JV to never enter a pitlane again :D

Main Host: Solid, pleasant, knowledgeable. Toby Moody or Bob Varsha

Ex-driver: Brundle. I think he's the best mix of experience(though dated) and accessibility. You need to explain this is in relatable, not technical terms. Ex drivers are great when they're fresh out of the series but the usefulness drops exponentially with each year. I think Coulthard is awful.

Third: You really need a nerd/expert these days for the times you do need to get into the details. Gascoyne might be good. He's smart and quotable. On the US feed there are times I wondered if Steve Matchett ever worked in racing.

Paddock people: Don't care. I'm bored with former drivers that aren't particularly interesting as commentators or racers. They become interchangeable after a while. You'd need someone like Franchitti/de Ferran, more cerebral guys.

Pits: Hmm, Kravitz is pretty good actually. None of them are *great* but he has a certain humour about him. He should be there to set-up questions for the tech guy to answer about strategy/car issues/etc/et al.

Person who interviews them mid-race when they've DNF'd: If not Chris Economaki himself, at least someone who follows the simple rule of asking "How was it out there?"

"You must be disappointed to crash out of the lead" Well no **** sweetheart.

My choices would be

Lead Anchor: Someone probably non-F1 but who enjoys it, engaging and on the younger side, probably female because all my other choices are male (tba) Rachel Riley was mentioned, she is intelligent, young and glamorous. She'd be a good fit, I'd give it some more thought.

Lead co-Anchor: Webber or Button (one day)

Additional co-Anchor: Brundle

(I think 3 people for the main team is a good number)

Tech: Scarbs

Race and Qualifying Commentary: Buxton (lead), Brundle (co)

Free Practice Commentary: Buxton (lead), Webber or Button

Pit lane: Ted Kravitz (if 2 are needed for each end of the pitlane or for the pen then Lee McKenize too)

Paddock: Eddie Jordan (love him or loathe him, but he does have access and breaks stories)

That's 7-8 people, which is still on the larger side.

For analysing stewards' decisions, Mark Blundell. He was very clear headed and refreshingly neutral on that previously, in my opinion.

Jacques Villeneuve.

You and that Lightman can pour out all the derision you like but he is absolutely the right man for the job.

I've watched SkyItalia many times and he's spot on with his observations.

He's the EuroTV version of Paul Tracy

I'll echo Ross' selections and would love to play the Economaki character myself.

Yes. I'd pick David Addison as lead commentator, Dario Franchitti as expert commentator, and Lee McKenzie as reporter. That would be perfect. No hours-long build-ups and post-session analyses, and no conversations between tv presenters who are just standing in front of the camera when they could be gathering insight from drivers or team personnel. I really don't see the point in hiring a dozen guys to cover an F1 event.

No more.

Shaven Haven as lead commentstor as long as he is wllowed to be as disparaging towards the director as he is on WTCC!

Co commentator as Brundle.

Pitlane reporter as Kravitz.

I'm not sure I get this need for the distinction between lead commentator and expert commentator. You have two commentators. The more expertise they have between them the better.

You're right in theory, but it's important in any sport to explain things to viewers. Many will not be veterans who've watched since Mansell went up against Senna. Some 'experts' are great at doing this, others not so much. In the latter case, it helps to have someone talk about the race - and encourage the expert to illustrate and explain - in ways that connect with the inexperienced viewer.

I mean, we all get how the tyre rules work. Sort of. But when someone hears that "Rosberg will opt for the Primes because he used the Options in Q2 and also opted for the Options in his second stint, which will be interesting because Hamilton started on the Prime and went with the Super Softs after his first stop" it makes just about no sense at all to new viewers, especially when the Yellow Prime tyre is suddenly called the Option at the next race. :stoned:

Unfortunately, there is also the 'flavour commentator'. This is too often a fancy word for 'shouting guy' who thinks TV is like radio and that he needs to mention every single thing that happens, as loud as possible.

I don t care, as long as we the viewers can ask them questions in the race (so all they need someone to have a grasp what a good question is and whatnot).

Even the most boring commentator can have everybody listening intently with a good answer, and the most exciting commentator can bore everyone with trivia.

Yeah I liked him at first but he's gradually getting worse and worse as a commentator
