The 2016 edition of the north west 200 is here with 3 races kicking off the action tonight before the main action on Saturday (and yes I know there is F1 qualifying on but that'll be a Mercedes 1-2 so now you don't have to watch it and can watch racing instead :p )

Metzeler-North-West-200.jpg?103d29

The circuit
Whilst the track has had many chicanes added over the years you can still get exciting slipstream action.

circuit-map-2.jpg

People to look out for
This year there is no Guy 'Nutterballs' Martin (I believe he is preparing to do some other crazy adventure) but there are plenty more to look out for.
Alastair Seeley (who is aiming to break the record for most wins at the north west 200), John McGuiness (he's still got it), Michael Dunlop and William Dunlop (prepare for sibling rivalry), Ian Hutchinson (hoping to continue last years TT form), Bruce Anstey (That beard doesn't seem to slow him down), Jeremy McWilliams (Standing in for the injured Dan Kneen), Ryan Farquhar (As quick as ever after returning from retirement) and Connor Cummins (The lanky Manx man is back again).

The schedule

Thursday
Supersport Race – 6 laps – 18:00
Supertwin Race – 4 laps – 19:00
Superstock Race – 6 laps – 20:00

Saturday (From 9:30am - 7:00pm)
Supersport race 2
Superbike race 1
Supertwin race 2
Superstock race 2
Superbike race 2

Please remember of course these are all subject to delays/change/weather/random stuff
Most likely this

Where to watch?
You can watch it all live and free on the bbc sport Northern Ireland website and it should be watchable all over the world. (If you're on the moon you're out of luck :p )

Enjoy! :D

Don't worry about it milestone. :)

Did anyone notice someone with an old Lorenzo helmet fall off the bike at the start of the second group of Supertwins? Seemed to spin it up to much off the startline. The commentary team didn't notice.

How could they not publish that?

Latest BBC article saying Ryan Farquhar 'seriously ill' with chest and pelvic injuries. Really hope he pulls through and recovers completely.

I would suspect will not see him on the roads again after already retiring once after his uncle was killed.

Have to agree, he shouldn't have returned after Trevor was killed.

Thanks Sheep, thought it inappropriate to give a like. Pelvic injuries can be very serious indeed, Robbie has never made a full recovery, still wheel chair bound, after nearly seven years.

It seems to be a never ending stream, but these guys are addicted to this sort of racing I'm afraid.

I really fear for John, he seems to be vary safe and still quick enough to win, but you just think, "I know you want to beat Joey but..."

Someone like that deserves to be lauded for decades after while he is still alive, not a face on a memorial trophy.

I know you can't change these events, but they are hard viewing sometimes. Farquhar is usually a very safe pair of hands, very unlucky, but you keep rolling the dice...

Good new about Ryan Farquhar. The doctors are optimistic that he will make a full recovery after his operation last night. http://www.bikesport...ry-for-farquhar
Cooper suffered two dislocated shoulders in the crash. http://www.bikesport...re-to-go-cooper

Hi milestone
Looking forward to the restart, shame it doesn't look like Harrison and William Dunlop don't look like they'll be able to take the restart. Seeley looks unstoppable today.

That was a great race, 4 wide at one point which was superb!
Looking forward to the next race.

Seeley has gone up the escape road at university, that blows this race wide open!
Edit: 209.1 through the speed trap for Anstey! Amazing!

Red flag. Malachi Mitchell Thomas seems to have disappeared so he might have caused the red flag. Hope everyone is ok. Lintin (if this is declared a result) was dominating.

Edit: The next race is due to start at 16:00.

Delay to the superstock race is now 16:30. Podium riders look somewhat downcast. I hope Mitchell Thomas is ok. :(

A sad way to end a great day of racing. We've lost the prospect of another two races but Malachi's family, friends and fans have lost so much more. As Andretti said, sadly racing is also this.

Worst news possible for Malachi

Is it definitely him?

It's terrible news. I thought there was something up with the long delay and the riders looking so downcast. This sport is so cruel, we enjoy the close battles and the wheel to wheel racing but when stuff like this happens you wonder if it's all worth it. :(

Thoughts go out to the family. :(

I don't know if it was intended, but the pit lane reporter mentioned Malachi's name in whilst talking with Phillip McCallen. I was singing the young man praises earlier.
