I couldn't find any suitable thread for this, so here it goes;
This absolutely marvelous Mercedes W196 driven by Juan Manuel Fangio was sold in 2013 for 17,6 £ million.

This will probably end up collecting dust in a garage, but if the owner wanted to; would he be able to go to all the big races?
Would it be able to attend Mille Miglia, Targa Florio & Historique Grand Prix Monaco?

Not sure if I want it to; the thought of that smashing into a wall in Monaco is heartbreaking...
But still, could it if it wanted to?

It could do Monaco, but not the other two.

The works Mercedes Benz sports car of that era - used in period on the Mille Miglia and the Targa - was the 300SLR. A very close relation, of course, especially as there was also a very similar enclosed streamlined body designed for the W196. All three designs by Uhlenhaut.

Funnily enough I was watching the historic Monaco races last week live on Motors TV. What a wonderful couple of hours, all those gorgeous (F1) cars from the past. Adrian Newey was racing an old Lotus, Alex Caffi in a 70s Ensign and dominating etc.

If you haven't seen it, I would recommend finding it or watching it somewhere.

Witesse: Ah, thanks. The 300 SLR is such a splendid machine. One of the saddest part of automotive history is that they didn't make more of them.
One can hope that the various museums & Mercedes might let some of them go some day. :)

statman: I tried to via stream on Motors TV. Sadly it never worked. :(

You could have posed the question on "The Nostalgia Forum" section of this website

This W196 competed in the 2000 Monaco Historique GP driven by Willie Green for the then owner Friedhelm Loh.

The M-B would not be eligible for the Mille Miglia or Targa Florio. Sister cars have been seen at various Goodwood Events over the past years
